no way man, this is the best thing. this is good design. when i'm on fucking NG, I'm just trying to get a grip on the game and find my way around the areas. I'm not tooled to deal with invaders en-masse who've gone ahead and +10'd their dark great club or their pyromancy flame.
NG+ means everybody's on the same page. Everybody knows what's up. They've had a whole play-through to figure out their build and get familiar with areas and mooks. Everybody has had access to the same opportunities.
I've still been invaded plenty of times in NG, so it's not like it never happens. From is just minimizing it. This is good design. Most people are not like us, min-maxing on their NG character. It lets people enjoy the game.
The core design of this game is probably the best souls has been, in my opinion, whatever one's taste for the rest of it might be. _________________

I've been invaded at least 5 times in NG. I feel like that's not too low a number? I'm just one data point though.
If you want lots of NG PVP though, go hang out in the bell towers.
also +1 to greng's post. hard to feel sorry for you not being able to infinitely invade dudes at your convenience.
game will never be more active than it is now. get on over to NG+ and crack dem orbs away man. You'll have invasions for days I'm sure. _________________

Interesting. More deaths on PS3 yet fewer clears?
I've actually lost some momentum moving midway through the shrine of amana. For some reason that area is just bumming me out (move slowly in water while you get shot by magic. Charge ahead and get ambushed by enemies in the water, but watch your step because you might fall into a death pit (contrast in this game feels really low in some places)). _________________

Yeah, I actually got invaded by two white phantoms and a red when I walked into the belfry just to join the covenant. it took me about a minute to realize that I was the target. At the other belfry, I stepped outside a door to kill a black phantom charging at me and the way back immediately fogged over.
don't matter who you are, when they say "keep out", they mean it. _________________

went to McDuff's in the bastille for some infusion, got invaded by a guy wearing a while phantom ring and using chameleon. Gald I watched the video mauve posted, or I would have never noticed how out-of-plance that unlit torch looked. He got me down to a sliver of health, but i evened out with firestorm. Simultaneous KO, but probably could have won if I kept my cool at the end. _________________

also, sorry everybody. i think all these threads are blending together for me now. |
I'm surprised you remembered the Symbol of the King door in forest of giants but not the one in shaded woods. The forest one had totally fallen out of my memory by the time I got the King's Ring (but all of those doors are required to win the game -- there's a third one too in Drangleic castle by the way). |
Pulling from the other thread:
there are actually two doors I remembered: The Forest of Giants door and one in Dragleic Castle. The only large door I remember in Shaded Woods is the Shrine of Winter's. I spent the past half-hour knocking on trees in the woods full of phantoms. I have no idea where this door is, or that there was one. Is it time to play hot/cold? I'm in the shaded ruins. _________________

Does the run button ever just not work for some of you? There's been more than one occasion trying to get away from enemies that I've hit it and I just keep walking. It's starting to piss me off. _________________

Pumping ADP only seems to give a boost to AGI every two points. I had put a bunch of points into ADP at first but stopped when it seemed like it wasn't doing much.
I got invaded by a real human being and won today. it felt pretty good. I actually feel like I have a chance in this game! Back-stabbing and parries are a lot less fun (I've never tried parrying because it seems so punishing if you miss now, and you're very likely to miss). The guard-break move is feel like the new parry to me.
I'm still getting invaded lots in NG if I linger too long in some areas I've been before. I guess beating bosses no longer keeps you safe from invasions. In fact, many of my invasions seem to be happening in areas after I've cleared them. Might just be my luck? _________________

Oh wow, I just unlocked the Giant's memories, and this is probably my favorite thing in the game so far. The biggest surprise was that the giant in the castle courtyard had a memory too. I assume the other does as well? Either way, the atmosphere of those area's are really great. Between this and the Dragon roost area, the closing hours of this game are really leaving a positive impression on me. _________________

Three of the giants have them. The one next to the optional third bonfire doesn't, for some reason.
Agreed they're great. The relationship with the landscape of the present is really cool. Go check out the Pursuer arena after completing the King's Door one. Yes, there's that huge rolling thing that crushed you several times, now forming the boss exit fog door. |
I realized that right after it rolled by me. I almost got crushed by it taking a moment look at the battle below. The atmosphere gave an additional sense of urgency, not excluding the text prompt: You've got a time limit. Move! I'd been progressing through the game at a careful pace till now, so it was one of the first times I felt like I had some serious pressure on me and that it was maybe okay to not comb the environment for every detail.
Makes you a bit sad when you reflect on how majestic the giants once were. Then you cut down the last of their race as the first boss.
Thankfully those areas are repeatable, because I used up almost all of my time talking to that one NPC. _________________

I got spoiled on the end boss because I put my sign down at the boss door expecting to fight Throne Duo.
I have 4 soul vessels now, so I think I'm just going to go around and collect every spell in NG and then remake my character into the grand wizardbeard/wizardbeardess. _________________

I'm at what is surely the end of the game, but after collecting those giant souls, I feel like the game hasn't given me any indication of where to go or what to do? I do have an idea of where to find the final boss only because I got spoiled on it leaving my summon sign for another boss. Maybe I haven't done a great job of paying attention, but even the emerald herald just gives her regular dialogue. There's no indication that the end is near, or if there is I'm missing it. _________________

I was doing alright against the ancient dragon until I died by clipping into his tail.

I beat the last boss, but unless I hadn't been spoiled on it, I seriously would have had no idea where to go looking for it. I feel like the game would have given me a better indication of this. Did I seriously miss something big guys?? It was kind of anti-climatic.
Vendrick seems like a warmup for Ancient Dragon more than anything else. They're both battles of endurance, the first allows few mistakes, the second allows none. _________________

this is impressive to me. i can't figure out parry timing in this game at all for mooks, let alone bosses. even when i hit it, i have no idea why. I'll use the same timing a minute later and eat the damage. _________________

One of many reasons i don't undestand how there's any argument for nerfing the presence of invasions in NG. (The others being countless ways to manipulate multiplayer, covenants that could potentially serve to counter invasions, the fact that an invader is at a disadvantage because can't summon/heal, etc.) |
the argument is that it is good design. by NG+ everyone had the same opportunities to build their character and find items. I was invaded plenty of times in NG, and now that I'm in NG+ I'm invaded so much it's becoming kind of a pain just to progress through the game. This is the reason why. _________________

I think part of it might be the times I choose to play? I started NG+ Friday night and I could not be in an area without being invaded within a few minutes.
But even in NG, I've been invaded many, many times. I've been invaded three times just hopping over to the weapon-infusion blacksmith. _________________

Can't remember my soul memory off the top of my head, but I'm around SL 140. I do confess to killing most of the NPCs in Majula that I didn't like before going to NG+. I'd say about half my invasions are the cops. _________________

Invaded by a blue sentinel in huntman's copse. I prostrated before him and then offered him my back, waiting for his sunlight blade-charged sword to drop.
He did not take it, and returned to his world instead.
I quit and turned off the game.
That's enough for today. _________________
