Yeah there's a moment from the beginning if the game that would have been chilling had I experienced first hand that got spoiled by my need for dks2

Installed this morning and played long enough to Make My Dude which I'm probably going to just delete and start a new one when I get home tonight. Have to actually DO MY JOB all day. Cruel fate. An intern here "got food poisoning" but don't worry, he isn't playing Dark Souls... It's Titanfall :| (upon watching the newest Dark Souls 2 trailer he exclaimed "Pegi 16! Those are the same guys that did Titanfall!")

I had a few hours with this last night. Cleared a boss that I'm fairly confident is meant to be the first boss you clear??? I find it weird there was no tutorial boss or anything like that unless I missed it.

I'm in a bit of a quandary because I rolled cleric and want to honor it's low dexterity, but I'm not finding any weapons that really match that. I know more hammers/axes would suit my build but I've yet to find them. I'm actually nervous to invest souls in stats yet so I've kind of just been losing all my souls and not spending them on anything. I should have probably gone with a knight or something so I could swords.

Ah, yeah I got the key and opened the door - I just need to return post his "setup". And yes, finding a miracles trainer would be a relief.

I feel like the look/feel of areas in this change dramatically at rapid pace. Like, an area is less consistently themed than, say, the sewers in Dark Souls. Constant change to the point that it feels sort of disorienting and it's hard to become familiar with the areas I'm traversing.

so nobody else got the whip, huh? guess I got lucky exchanging my gift. been hugely helpful for making progress early on though it does tend to break a lot.

I got the demon hammer from my gift trading. With the stat requirements it's unlikely I'll be using this.

Once I found Heide's Tower I gained some good momentum. Really good area for clerics because of the gear and the two miracle trainers. Really nice change is that heal miracles are now AoE to heal allies as well! Quite pumped about that. Oh yeah and 15x lightning bolt miracle thing is pretty anti-boss. Helped some dudes clear the two bosses there and it was kind of lame even how fast it takes bosses down without effort. Like I was just helping these guys not play the game :S

I'm wearing that there old knights gear. Going pretty heavy for my first playthrough. I want a guy that can take hits and heal. I'm a coward, is what I mean - clearly not ready for the true dark souls to start here. Not using a shield though, as they don't really seem as effective as they did in dks1, and I've never been partial to them anyways. I prefer just-not-getting-hit. Backstabbing everything all the time with ease is also not a main element of gameplay this time around, for sure, which is nice.

I understand the warping bonfires considering the world/level design. Definitely somewhere between the demon's nexus and the dark souls world. I actually really just miss having a completely interconnected world filled with shortcuts though.

remote, did you finish talking to the miracle lady in the tower?

she
opens up a path once she's back in majula

in fact it is such a deep path that appears to be lead to so many different places which I have not probed yet I'm surprised it doesn't automatically open itself up if you've failed to trigger the requisite dialogue options by the time you've cleared the bastille and following areas which apparently lead to the dead end you've reached (which I haven't yet).

I've yet to see anyone return to majula. I've seen them disappear from where I found them, and imagined at least SOME of them would wander on back - but if they're there I'm overlooking them.

Man I wasted that pharros' key on a hidden room with some chests :S Guess I need to find another to make progress! Yeah, I also quickly noticed that repeated dialogue interaction with all characters is mandatory - and I don't really like it. I like talking to people because I want to hear what they have to say, not because I know exhausting their dialogue will make them a shop or get me a "thing" :\

Man the rate at which you guys are surpassing me is upsetting - and I'm playing every second I'm not working. I stayed up really late last night and went into work tired, too :(

Last thing I did was clear Lost Sinner which actually gave me a pretty hard time - which is probably because I'm really slow and for all my armor he still two shots me... and my weapons are garbage so I have to rely on my miracles and it's realllly easy to get punished right to death with a poorly timed miracle.

Also joined the bell bros covenant and seriously wasn't waiting 10 seconds between invasions. If you need Titanite Chunks this is the covenant for you!

Ah, and I opened up the path by the scottish fella with the blue ultragreatsword. At what point is a good time to plunge myself into the well? I tried and died as shit even with the cat ring

Got to Shrine of Winter / Dangleic Castle last night. Probably going to take a break to play Ground Zeroes.

Interested to go through that there list of yours, DJ. I know I've done some of these things, but some of them have me like "What?" I've also realized I've missed the vast majority of illusion walls because you interact with them differently than in the last game and I just thought all the messages were lying :(

Let's talk levels, I've felt like I've been pretty reserved on my leveling relative to what I feel like the progression is MEANT to be. I'm 104 at Dangleic Castle and I feel like I've spent the majority of the game letting my souls go to waste as opposed to ever leveling. I think I still have the Dark Souls mentality of "I want to build a perfect character at around SL ~60". 104 feels really high, but it also feel necessary due to much higher reqs etc. I mean 50 of it is pure faith.

I was never down with 120 characters in Dark, but I may be down for a 160/180 for Dark 2 because dang. If I call my character done now, I'm going to have a pretty hard time with the rest of the game still.

I hate this idea. Is there a ring to stop collecting souls please? I really am not sure about this whole new matchmaking idea. Soul level based just makes infinitely more sense. This feels like there's no reason to ever stop growing your character until you have to abandon them. I want to create a complete build and stay there. Idk seems weird.

which I'm fine with, particularly given the pvp focus

I used my one bonfire ascetic in a particularly nasty way - actually just copying my friend tho but shh - I used it at the Rat Covenant area of Doors of the Pharros :3

The other really bad one I has was right when I got to the wharf, the ship (the entire model) was slowly blinking to a jarring bright white in a sea of darkness.

I realllllllllllllly like the upgrade path simplification. Also some of the details about it, such as Heide's sword being able to retain it's elemental property in addition to whatever you enchant it with.

Yeah I'm noticing I've plugged way more hours per my completio percentage than most people here - and I'm not even doing a good job of exploring or taking in lore. I'm ready to start a second character, I think, and just do it all better haha.

I'm still pretty early, got a bit more exploring done last night, after beating up the Trio Boss in Lost Bastille, I decided to run around and do some item gathering/exploration, I managed to open up the "hidden" bonfire and second blacksmith in the Bastille, got summoned for an unsuccessful run at the Lost Sinner, opened up the Belfry then suicided after a gray invader decided to hide, and headed back to the Wharf to pick up the Ring of Life Protection and the Pyromancy Flame/Fireball that I had missed initially. Final act of the night was to throw myself repeatedly down the hole in Majula, I made it to the Grave of Saints, was swiftly murdered after being summoned as a gray, then dropped down to what I think is the start of the Gutter, only after grabbing what was in the chest, I got repeatedly slaughtered by the flame ghouls. I'm hoping that I can just head back tonight and missile-weapon the fuckers. I got my Greatsword up to +5 and I'm feeling pretty comfortable with it although I'm noticing what feels like bugs where you will somehow attack 180 degrees behind you when locked on to a target -- I'm not sure if it's actually a bug or something where I'm moving the left stick when I trigger the attack and that causes you to do a "hit shit that's behind you" maneuver. I'm thinking that tonight will be: opening up a bit more of the Gutter, doing an item grab run in the Huntsman's Copse and seeing if I can take the Lost Sinner.

Honestly, just roll away from them when they leap. They deal with themselves.

If it helps, DJ, I'm completely unphased by the two bugs I've encountered. Videogames are magical imperfect things and I love them for it.

I made a second character saturday morning and got to Drangleic Castle by Sunday afternoon, which really debunks my concerns about not being able to make new characters and quickly build them up in a couple of days to what you want them to be.

My new dude is a gimped high dex build that focuses on the more asshole-ish pyromancies (acid surge, poison, toxic) and uses Spider Silk (S dex scaling, strong attack penetrates shields. +Stone ring for guys with big shields and low poise.) I've also made a bleeding effect twinblade but I find it pretty difficult to use and useless. It's not activating the effects anywhere near as reliably as I'd like.

What are ghastly dark lord souls and why do you want them

Remote are you crazy you need to know the game inside and out so you can be the world's greatest when it releases on PC aughhhh!! Alright, nah but I want to reallly play with/tinker with this game as much as possible as early as possible. Like, remember when that one miracle that activated on damage was finally figured out like a year+ after dark souls release? I wanna be around figuring this stuff out, not seeing it on a YouTube vid.

Hmmm ahhh I guess I need to invest in a good striking weapon... Something with good raw damage and raw imbuement because I'm all dex. Unless there's a good dex scaling wep.

Thanks broco! The wiki claimed bows are strike damage??? Is that just a weird technicality like "well actually the arrows are thrust" or just misinformation? Maybe I'd just blackbow through the endgame.

The things you're saying about dex right now are breaking my heart, consume. Also does "quality build" mean high dex or what? You guys have been throwing that around but it's really foreign to me.

The character is built for PvP poisoning, but between poison arrows, throwing knives, and pyro clouds - I figured I'd not focus my attention there on my main weapon. I mean, as I mentioned earlier I tried a bleeding twinblade and it was garbage. Also statuses (poison especially) seem worthless in pve.

Might be funny to try the Giant Seed item too. It's supposed to make all enemies target the invader. They might be wrongfooted by that, it's incredibly hard to PvP while enemies are targeting you.

the blue covenants are so stupid. Not in theory, but in execution. Why do you first get the "help me!" covenant before you can even be invaded? Invading is so nerfed in this by late access (Okay the darkwraith covenant so bad point) and lack of a red eye stone with limited availability cracked stones that the chances you'll be invaded and in the covenant and someone else will be in the OTHER blue covenant at the same damn time are incredibly low. I've still not been invaded once.
