This thread will be my screenshot dump to entice people to play the English translated version of Shin Megami Tensei 1 on iOS, officially released by Atlus USA. Sorry but you'll have to deal with seeing the touch controller for all the screenshots because I can't be bothered to crop and resave them all. Finally cropped them!

Please make your browser wide enough so that two screenshots can line up side-by-side to have optimal viewing of this thread.

This game is based on the GBA port of the PS1 port of the original SNES game. The PS1 version had 3d environments and a new soundtrack, meanwhile the GBA port had to de-res the 3d assets or redraw them to fit, so they're kinda crummy looking in comparison. The GBA music was also terrible, but this iPhone version thankfully uses the PS1 version's music.

PS1 gameplay example:

Sorry, no videos of the GBA version outside of Nico vids that aren't all battles.

For more information about the various versions, read the HG-101 article about it: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/megaten/megaten2.htm

Also this translation was handled by the dudes at Atlus who handle the SMT series, so the spell names and demon families names are consistent with the rest of the franchise as we've experienced it. There's a good interview with Mai Namba (project lead and translator) and Nich Maragos (editor) up on Siliconera to read more about those details: http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/21/atlus-usa-like-localize-first-shin-megami-tensei/

Also also, it's unfortunate you can't hear the music because the first two games had FUCKING AMAZING soundtracks. Please listen to them here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n52_MTASVDU&list=PLB-py7ylAoF9SbPuLXo5G54n8QO79l2tI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNf7FmS1ZZI&list=PLBCFFCFB062501BBD (can't seem to find the SNES version's playlist :/)

So one of the factors that make the original SNES game so hard to play, especially now, is the game's first person dungeon crawling. The map scrolling is choppy and jarring, with animation that's way worse than Phantasy Star 1 despite being made 5 years after it. This would normally be okay to deal with, but random encounters can sometimes spin the player around, making you forget where you were heading towards after the battle is over, making you horribly lost.

The original game's map didn't help this sense of getting lost either because the map would auto-orient with what direction you were facing, leaving no sense of direction to where you were supposed to go or where you just came from. Add to that all the maps are just giant square mazes, so there's no real layout for you to get a sense of when it's rotated in right angles constantly.

This version, and most games after the first I think, give you an option to lock the map to always face north. This is by far the most significant addition that makes this game playable.

Also the map is always displayable by pressing the L button instead of having to go through 3 submenus to open it.

199X... a most auspicious year.
Also this kid gets a ridiculous $100 allowance a month. I wish my parents were this rich. Also, you never see your father once, but that's not surprising in a JRPG.
Your mother and dog are both wear lots of blue, meanwhile you're green. Actually I don't think you ever see yourself ingame at all and would never know what you look like outside of package and illustration art.

Why does an arcade have a cafe and why does Mom buy their beans? Also here is Pascal, my lovely blue dog, who's named after the programming language. I haven't seen the dialogue about it, but Mom apparently drops an in-canon ref that you received the dog as a puppy from Nakajima, the hero of the previous games and light novel series Megami Tensei, from which this game is a successor of.

Funny thing about DDS-NET is that back in the early 00s, there used to be a big community around DDS-NET.net or something along those lines. Various sites still exist but they're not much to look at anymore: http://dds-net.net/ http://www.smt-dds.net/ http://dds-net.proboards.com/ This one is the webring I remember the most: http://dds.megaten.net/

Saved these to post in the Galaxy Oddity thread about women storekeepers.

Survival gear guy (left)'s room exiting dialogue is pretty slick. Meanwhile, Knife Guy is very accommodating in his own ways.
It's funny to see the pre-rendered/compressed background images mashed together with the much-closer-to-the-original sprites of the NPCs.

Left shot is spooooky foreshadowing. Also there's some butthurt SMT fans that are upset that the left translation and other dialogue is different from the Aeon Genesis version. It's ridiculous.

The Expanse mentioned above was originally called the "Demon World" or something generic in the JP version. There's an interesting note related to that in the Siliconera interview I linked above:

Nich Maragos wrote:
The most interesting thing about localizing SMT1 for me was that we’ve been unintentionally laying the groundwork for it since my first project with the company. Specific terms and lines from several more recent games that were all meant as callbacks to the original ended up influencing our localization of the original, to accurately preserve those callbacks.

We call it the “Great Cataclysm” because that’s what it was referred to as in Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army, and a few of the lines sprinkled throughout the Void Quest dungeon in Persona 4 were quotes from the start of this game, so those got used verbatim too. Those who’ve gone through SMTIV will find a lot of the terms from that game re-used for our SMT1 script as well.

Likewise, the Cathedral Master has his dialogue from SMT IV re-used in this place. For comparison, here's his Nocturne dialogue:

Meanwhile, his rad voxel version in SMT IV: http://youtu.be/Nu5be_ez3XY?t=1m9s

!?

Steven looks so goofy in the original sprite, which is fitting considering how he's been crippled by the demons he accidentally released from trying out his demon summoning program. Meanwhile, in the PS1 remake's art by Kazuma Kaneko, he's really stylin'. Likewise, he's looking pretty good in SMT IV, with art by Masayuki Doi.

I fused him with a goat.

This was about 44 minutes into the game. I decided to restart the game though because I wanted to name the Heroine after my GF instead. It went by a lot faster once I knew what flags I needed to hit to proceed.

if they were to release an android or 3ds version i actually would play this for this differences from the original version, despite my griping about atlus's "FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NORTH AMERICA" advertisements when... no, not really, no thanks to you, atlus!!! but this actually looks/sounds really cool.

i really like demon negotiations in this game

actually i really love everything about it, but goddamn is this port ugly. i mean in the land of virtual-buttons and stretch-scaling of course it is, but this hits especially hard given the original is so pristinely pixel-perfect, you know? there are very few 16-bit games with the original's overwhelming attention to detail. that dialogue font in particular is a hilarious monstrosity.

That and I'm pretty sure the original idea was he's based on Stephen Hawking, so his seemingly odd sprite pose makes complete sense.

definitive english version of the game but a bit janky as it's a localisation of a ~2009 release - no ipad native res/icloud saves etc.

wonder if they'll get around to 2 & more importantly, if...

(remote: i'd like to say an android release is a given, as it does exist in japanese & they've clearly gone to some trouble/expense localising it, but who knows with atlus)

edit: hah, 2 still has the 'no english language version now or ever' description

beyond wanting to support the developer/publisher, running gideon and co's translation on an emulator would very likely be a superior experience on android anyway

Do the multiple endings in this game lead into what becomes SMT4?

Except that the SNES version's lack of a quick way to get to the map is a huge disadvantage compared to the remake/sequels.

I don't know, the later versions of SMT1 are a bit nicer I reckon (and there's a mobile version of SMT if..., so it'd be nice if this lead to a translation of that)

& yeah, most games from the last few years will cloud save

Oh yeah! Forgot about that while posting. The Siliconera interview mentions that too actually:
Quote:
NM: Going through the old code was a real trip. Usually, the stuff we work on was finalized two to six months before we get to it, but on this project, the date stamps on the files we received were over ten years ago. There was so much cool stuff in the raw code, too. It’s always been obvious that characters like General Gotou and Stephen were loosely based on real-life figures, but to see their identifier tags in the source as straight-up “mishima” and “hoking” was a hoot.

special blend: SMT IV is actually pretty insular in its story. It's almost a parallel universe of what happens in SMT 1, with the same events and themes happening just in different ways.

Ebrey: yeah, the UI is a lot more cleaned up and quick to access, which is a blessing, and I think the game balance has been adjusted to be less difficult. I might be misinterpreting that though because I'm playing the game smarter now than when I first tried it on the SNES version.

Other pros: the game will autosave if you exit the game, so you don't have to save everywhere. It uses a Continue slot that it'll then delete if you start it up again, and it's usually behind a few tiles than where you thought you were, so it's not the best but it's nice that it's there. I usually just play until I can get to another save point, so I don't use it much though.

Cons: touch screen controls (though they honestly aren't that bad since this game doesn't require much precision or actions), having to use headphones to hear the badass music perfectly. Actually I kinda wish they used the PSX sfx too instead of the GBA ones because they sound nicer. Or maybe they used the SNES SFX and I'm just fooling myself?

The other big Con being that it's not on a system I play games on, but it's kind of convenient having it on my phone so I can take screenshots easily like this.

Fans are predicting that they'll translate 2 and If... after this in anticipation for SMT x Fire Emblem, which features the main heroes of SMT 1-IV + If... I hope so!

most importantly, the SNES version doesn't have the full version of the boss battle, Embassy, Shibuya or Cathedral themes (I believe these were all in IF, so you could probably patch them in). Although I think I prefer the rawer SNES samples to the PS1 instruments. It also features the Majin theme from SMT3 that is so hard to get out of your head.

On the other hand, it doesn't produce 800kb screenshots....are those straight captures?

the craziest shit I read the other day is that the improvements in the mobile version of Romancing SaGa II (which seems to generally be the best regarded in the SNES trilogy) were actually first included in the Virtual Console release as bug fixes and DLC. I gotta figure this out.

oh shit, SMT Imagine shut down. I really should've tried it while I had the chance...
Fuck.

Have you guy seen all the absolutely crazy mounts Imagine had:

No No non no no non on ono n NON NO NON O NO NO NO NON ONOO NO
Be glad you didn't play Imagine. It was the biggest waste of time ever.

I played both the Japanese beta, regular release, the US Beta, then the US regular and each time I thought, "maybe it'll be better this time" and each time afterwards I thought, "fucking hell, why did I think it'd be any better?"

It was basically mouse clicker 3000 grindathon skinned in SMT. Actually, Cookie Clicker is by far in every way a better game. Honestly could not find anything enjoyable about the game at all.

That said, the SMT skinning was nice but my god was it a fucking waste of time to play. Not anything enjoyable about clicking to move anywhere, clicking to attack, clicking to grind, clicking to this to do that to do this to do nothing at all.

I think i dropped $25 to get P2 uniforms and Raidou outfit for my friend and myself and thought that was cool and then I regret it especially since I was a poor student at the time. Ughhhh ughghghhghhhh

Here's photos from my time playing the game: http://persona.mechafetus.com/megatenonline/

Also yeah, these screenshots are straight from my phone. A good benefit of the game being on iOS!

I still have no idea how I managed to make it through SMT1 a while back. This image will remain proof of my decent into madness:

Glad that I did though. Cool game. Trying to start up SMT2 right after was a no-go however and still is. That game seems to take a while to pick up. If they ever translate the sequel I might give it another go.

Best SMT1 moment for me was right at the end before final angel boss. Right before the boss door a random battle I tried auto-battling like any other at this point goes horribly wrong within seconds. I die for the first time in forever (game balance is kind screwed at this point in the game) and have to redo 2 sub-bosses. When I finally make it back up again the final boss gets afflicted by the rare paralysis status on the third turn which completely immobilizes enemies and can't be recovered from. I kill him without having to heal.

Someone actually fixed that with a hack:
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/907/
And even fixed a lot of bugs the orginal had along with updating some spell and demon race names:
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/988/

Yes, they both work together. Also, one of my biggest problems with the SNES version was how you couldn't quickly preview demon fusion results in the menu. I only found out after finishing the game that you indeed can by holding right on the dpad AND pressing down R when selecting your demons. It was pretty bullshit. Still, the problem of how you have no idea what the stats of the things that are sold are until you buy them remains.

LOL that chart is amazing! Conveniently, I can just take screenshots of stats and compare it on my phone which is nice. I didn't know about seeing a quick preview though! I'll try it out.

I'm just a little past the "Hurry... cut... the.... power..." myself. I was curious what he would say if I saved and wanted to stop playing and got the screenshots of it too.

I wonder if the game balance will be better in the iOS version for that last part. I'm going Neutral though so I'll have to fight everyone. How long was your game time?

And man, I wish I knew about the map hack and spell/demon name hack, though I think I was playing them way before those existed.

The quick preview was only mentioned in AG's readme that came with the translation. The problem was that it mistakenly informs you of the SMT2 method instead which didn't require one to hold Right on the dpad as well I think. That whole txt has got a whole lot of errors in it actually. They really really stepped their game up with the awesome SMT2 one.

It was really pure chance of any of the stuff at the end happening. I think I got charmed by multiple enemies which caused my demons to near instantly kill themselves/me and paralysis' OP-ness is usually balanced out by there being no reliable way to inflict it similar to the Frozen status in Gen I Pokemon. My play time was way longer then it had any right to be is all I know. Does the game keep track of it? My SRM file might still be on this computer somewhere.

Here's a neat thing you may not have seen:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9058308
It's a compilation video of a lot of the stuff they added to the PC Engine version of SMT1, most notably a few animated cutscenes. Make sure to at least check out the very last one at the end of the video.

And oh god, google still has my spreadsheet saved
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvLxmpXBqTludEhkTXM4SWRNZEZJMFlYSkt1Q2pyZnc&usp=sharing
In the end it gave me my awesome final party at least:

Yeah, but your 3DS needs to have old firmware for it to work in the first place. Not a good option.

Anyone know anything about the mega cd port of this game? I just have an irrational preference for sega cd games. Of course, it is probably useless to me since I don't believe there is a translation patch for the mega cd version. It would be cool if there was though, because it would be easier to play it on original hardware.

Not much other then what HG101 tells me:
Quote:
SIMS also brought SMT to the Sega Mega CD, actually remaking it in the process. Using the scaling capability of the system, this version actually features smooth scrolling instead of the jerky movement in the other games. It's a little sluggish though, and can be turned off. All of the graphics have been redone with more detail, and while they look far better, they're also quite pixellated. Other graphical touches have been added - character portraits are added to all conversations (some are clearly digitized people, others are artwork, which is a little strange), you can actually see multiple demons on the battlefield instead of just a single one, and there are some new graphics for some voiced cutscenes, most notably the intro. Much of the music is also remixed CD audio, and is quite good. The text font is larger, allowing for the use of kanji. Overall, definitely a nice port.

Whoa, this is pretty rad. Those cutscenes really do add some impact to those moments, especially the great flood. Also what's up with fusing Buddha in end-game? Pretty cool exclusives! I wonder if the iOS version has any neat extras like that that we just don't know aobut.

---- REBOOT ----

"Let that guy alone..."

The left screenshot is after you go back home and discover your mom acting kinda strange. Then, she rips her skin off and reveals herself to be a demon. After defeating it, the Law Hero tries to console you and the Chaos Hero admonishes him for even trying.

There's people online who are upset at how different Atlus's translation is of this scene versus the Aeon Genesis version. I agree that "Let that guy alone" is kinda awkward sounding, and AG's version is more passionate but might be a little less accurate to the original intention. Either way, let that guy alone.

Yap Yap! Technology Yap yap!

Even in the year 199X, missionaries are trying to convert godless Japanese students in Shinjuku's underground malls.

Old enough to shoot guns and swing swords to kill demons spawned from the internet, too young to get a drink. Also that lack of space from obj ids!

The rude bartender with the info about the Resistance is the Resistance's bartender. Meanwhile, all the nice bartenders work for bars serving the Japanese militia or the US army.

Like this lady. She also leaves a proper space after her orange juice.

Tough times even for the Yakuza, here in Shinjuku 199X.

Interesting to note that each alignment has their own respective healers that can restore status/revive/cure/and vend items. Depending on your alignment, their prices can be higher or lower. If you don't know what your alignment is, this is a pretty clear way to find out. Though an easier way is to just go on the world map and see what direction your player cursor spins: clockwise for Law, counter for Chaos, back and forth for Neutral, I believe.

Also Gaeans have their own missionaries too, preaching the gorgeousness of Lucifer.

Sure are a lot of BLACK girls.

Law Hero is looking for BLACK, my next door neighbor, by the way. Previously known as CERISE.

Suddenly...

"Where is my BLACK!?"

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT...??

i sure would love to play this

on something dedicated to playing games :\

i just can't realistically dedicate myself to playing a "long" game on my phone. i barely even play "quick" games! i need all of my battery life for the million other (more important or semi-important) things i can do on my phone.

it's too bad because this looks like a fun port.

i have a copy of this game for the PC-Engine! for no particular reason!

For some reason, I thought that the shell that Mikado sits on was the dome created by the protagonist of SMT1 or 2 to stop ICBMs from blowing up Tokyo, is that a thing that happened? And that the Infernal and Blasted timelines were born out of SMT1 or 2's chaos and law endings?

Unless Atlus has specifically said that they are related, it's probably closer to what Persona said. I'm pretty sure the Amala Universe concept was introduced in SMT3 to deal with all the vague connections/similarities/easter eggs the games (and spin-off media) already had. The only non-mobile game which explicitly takes place in the same timeline as the original two SMT titles is IMAGINE, which supposedly happens at some point between them.

Other stuff that seems related is just similar parallel universes. The plot of the Raidou game hinges (at one point) on proximity to a set of events that closely resemble SMT I/II, and a sidequest in the second game implies that not only can people theoretically move through time or to parallel universes, but that demons also feel a connection to their existences in other dimensions, even potential ones that are not yet realized (I think). Come to think of it, that was actually probably related to how the archangels show up in DDS2, which initially seems like a boss cameo similar to the Demi-Fiend in DDS, but I feel is actually meant (along with the final dungeon/boss area) to hint to the player that the whole Law/Chaos conflict is a lot more complicated than the YHVH/Lucifer grudge match that the True Demon leads you to believe.

I feel like some of these things would be clearer if more games were translated - specifically Megami Tensei II/Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei and the first two Majin Tensei games (the former in order to better understand the nature of the Great Will, and the latter because, while Majin Tensei has a pretty barebones post-apocalypse plot similar to Megami Tensei II or the first SMT, Majin Tensei II apparently builds upon it while invoking both time travel and parallel universes).

This lady is really jealous of BLACK. Meanwhile, see how she's flanked by ladies (?) in dom outfits and torches.

After sending 4 waves of enemies after me, they let me escape with BLACK, completely fine with me walking past their guarded checkpoint and everything. If I try walking back into the building, they won't let me enter though. Some lines have to be drawn.

At this point, my party splits up. Chaos Hero to hunt for Ozawa to presumably kick his ass/kill him, and Law Hero to find his girlfriend BLACK. Heroine BLACK feels sorry for me and joins me with this way superior equipment:

It's interesting to note that she's equipped with High Cut Armor. It's a staple special armor *for girls only in the recent Persona games:

Welcome to the BLACK women's prison.

As mentioned earlier, Gotou is based on Yukio Mishima:

Ambassador Thorman speaks with a broken accent in the AG translation. Seems like they're trying to pull a similar thing here but it comes across more like typos than anything.

After meeting Thorman and Gotou in buildings all the way across the city from each other, you have to return to Gotou and give him your decision. It's an early alignment choice, though other things can change your alignment, such as demon and NPC conversations. In this game, you can only summon demons of your alignment into battle, so alignment makes a tactical difference compared to the recent games.

Mishima Fact: his upper body was really built but his legs were infamously not so. That's why nearly all photographs of him (minus the one I posted earlier) are from waist up.

Seems like Gotou also reflects this trait. Or they were lazy about rendering his thighs.

WHAT A TWIST! THORMAN -> THOR?!
This version of Thor skews closer to his Norse roots. I can dig it but I like the Nocturne version more:

I'm aiming for Neutral so I rejected both of their ideals. If you accept one side or the other, I think you don't have to fight them?

Aw man, I was really hoping this line was a ref to:

But looking it up, the line is different. Oh well.

GLORY TO THE MILLENIUM KINGDOM!!
And so the legacy of SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI was born.

In a great moment of JRPG design, immediately following Thor's announcement a counter is perpetually displayed onscreen, counting down from 30 seconds. As I rush out of the building to try and somehow beat it (which I've never been able to, though I doubt it changes anything), the countdown turns red when it hits below 10, ultimately ending in:

And a galaxy comes spiraling in, all MODE-7, into the screen. Fade into:

I think En no Ozuno is referred to as Abe no Seimei in the AG translation? Or maybe I'm making this up?

En no Ozuno is:
Wikipedia wrote:
En no Ozunu (役小角?, also pronounced Ozuno or Otsuno (male; b. conventionally given as 634, in Katsuragi; d. approx. 700-707, reported details vary). His kabane, or political standing of his clan, was Kimi (君)) was a Japanese ascetic, mystic, and apothecary, who was banished to Izu Ōshima on June 26, 699 AD.[1] In folk religion, he is often called En no Gyōja (役行者?, lit. "the Ascetic from the En clan") and traditionally held to be the founder of Shugendō,[2] a syncretic religion incorporating aspects of Taoism, Shinto, esoteric Buddhism (especially Shingon Mikkyō and the Tendai sect) and traditional Japanese shamanism.[3] He is also known as En no Ubasoku (役優婆塞).

He is also apparently a lv 3 LOL player.

At this point, I'm left to wander this maze until I recollect my companions.

Everyone's so casual. I like to imagine that they were actually wandering around the world and living life during this timeskip and are genuinely so blase about running into me 30 years later.

I wonder if it's even worth spoiler tagging things that will be ruined in a few images anyway?

Also Azumi is so freaky looking in the original. Reminds me of this Short Cuts page by Usamaru Furuya:

Meanwhile, this is what she looks like in modern SMT games:

These two never change.

Chaos Hero is so honest about how pathetic he is. Also I fused Spinal from Killer Instinct.

The left is the Atlus text from the gif Ymer posted earlier:

Imagine the text is being written out piece by piece like in Ymer's gif though.

Also I'm running into apparitions of NPCs that are saying dialogue from the beginning of the game here.

Also BUGABOO! I mainly remember him from Strange Journey where he was a Mike Mignola-designed puppy for the Chaos hero:

----- TO BE CONTINUED ------

Man, these posts take longer to write than actually playing the game.

Are the main characters in SMTIV meant to be variations on the characters in SMTI? I get the sense from some of the images in this thread that they share similar hairstyles and stances.

from playing a few of the older games, and reading about SMT
the protagonists seem to repeat the same values/concepts over and over again

---- > CONTINUE ----

Haunted by visions of the past

Dudes are mad intolerant

I found out these key items I get, like the Light Sword from earlier (I think?), allow you to see mini cutscenes if you view them in an option from the title screen. From the cutscene involving these two, I found out they're onis without masters and also husband and wife. I think the one on the right is the wife, though it's hard to tell from just their names alone.

The world has really changed. Welcome to post-apocalypse Tokyo.

"Dude, no."

He's pretty helpful for such a rude guy.
Also it's pretty amusing to see my yen counter go from Y 15380 to zero after this scene.

I actually take damage after that moment on the left.

"Dude, no."

Revealing information through show, don't tell! Well, as "don't tell" as a text-based game can. Also the reveal of the wasteland after the build-up of having to trudge through a crystal prison is pretty great.

Here's two dudes I remember from Nocturne:

Rag actually appears in several of the SMT and Megami Tensei titles! in SMT 1, he trades rare stones for items or demons. I just recently traded a Diamond to get Balm of Life for a story purpose. I never used him otherwise. In Nocturne, I would trade stuff all the time to get Mitama that were useful for fusions.

Discos exist even in the post-apocalypse. Also The Count fears the pot.

The drinks of the future!
The fashion of the future!

The future cops have a cool uniform. The guy on the right is talking about Roppongi, I believe.

Child labor is not uncommon in the world of the future.
Also the Enforcer on the right totally sounds like he's singing his dialogue there.

Ozawa has aged quite a bit in the 30 years. My headcanon is that if you could zoom into his face, he'd look like former Nintendo CEO Hiroshi Yamauchi.

Yamauchi summons Kishin Minakata after talking to him and I get immediately beaten. We run away and Chaos Hero starts complaining about being weak.

"Dude, no."
After this point, you're supposed to go to the Cathedral of Shadows, but I forgot about that and went ahead with the rest of the plot until I couldn't go any further and then realized I forgot to do this.

Gaean Death Riders are some sweet cyberpunk Akira bike gang in allegiance with Chaos. If your alignment bends that way, I think they're more willing to let you go if you talk to them. But they drop a bunch of cash and are easy to mow down so it's more fun to just slaughter them all.

This kept happening for a while and I didn't realize until later that this event would trigger if I was on the world map and it was a Full Moon.

Death.
Also MORE POWER, RGGH RGHH RGHHH

At this point, he automatically scrolls down to your last demon and force-fuses with it, gaining about 10 levels. I wonder what would happen if you only have a Pixie there? Would he still have the same stats??

Also, tee hee, he fused with a Nekomata, hee hee. I wonder what kind of power he obtained?

NEGOTIATION FAILED

NEGOTIATION FAILED

I love the phrase "devil buster." It immediately registers as a portmanteau of "ghostbuster" and devil.

Also the demon on the right was in this house in the west that was full of demons wayyyy higher level than me. I could take down a single demon with a full party, but I'd just get slaughtered if there were 3 or more. I stuck around here for a bit to level up.

NEGOTIATION FAILED

The future world is a difficult place.

Really want to slap this bratty child.
This is Shibuya, formerly fashion capital of Tokyo, now a single building that's home to a thriving Messian community. Though they are strangely tolerant and allow a neutral faction to rent a room and offer healing services.

Bodyconians upgrade to Man-Eater, giving more money and having the same conversation patterns. Whenever I run into them, I would choose Aggressive > Ignore > Detain and ask for Mag and get 880 M.

Let us cling together

NEGOTIATION FAILED

Hot

The Count fears the pot.

There's no healing place for Law alignment in Shibuya unless you pay to have this one built. I imagine paying for it will turn your alignment more towards Law as well.

We ran outta there, Scooby Doo-style.
After this, I went back to Psycho Diver and tried to get him to join me and PsychoDive(c) into BLACK's mind, but he wouldn't leave his cell. Then I remembered I had some unfinished business.

Chaos Hero is such a loveable idiot. "Yo dudes, I got this, I'm half Nekomata now, I can totally take this legendary Japanese god!"

I can't kill Yamauchi!
Besides, it'd affect my alignment!

"Dude, no."

Chaos Hero, the archetypical scumbag bro.

Gameplay-wise, it's tough losing him here because he's so strong. It actually worked in my favor that I got the events wrong and leveled the party up while he was around. I imagine it would be really difficult to go to Shibuya from Shinjuku for the first time without him; there's a battle every 5 centimeters on the world map!

This is when I learned why I kept getting that one dialogue prompt.

These Corpses started appearing after killing Ozawa.

Open your mind, Quaid.

Everything is pink, with a pitch-blackness deeper inside.

THE PSYCHIC WORLD AWAITS!!

I cropped and compressed all the screenshots so they're not massive and this doesn't take hundreds of megabytes to load!

Stay strong in these hard times!

I remember the mind labyrinth being the most difficult area in the game for me. Had some particularly annoying demons with just the worst status effects. The best way to deal with them was just fuse one of your own since they leave you alone if you have one their kind in your party (except during happy hour full moon of course). When I was tragically defeated by the spider boss at the end I felt no shame in reloading my save state just before her and trying again instead of redoing that maze.

Actually didn't know about the small scenes that occur when the Light Sword is inspected. Neat.
