I still have no idea how I managed to make it through SMT1 a while back. This image will remain proof of my decent into madness:
Glad that I did though. Cool game. Trying to start up SMT2 right after was a no-go however and still is. That game seems to take a while to pick up. If they ever translate the sequel I might give it another go.
Best SMT1 moment for me was right at the end before final angel boss. Right before the boss door a random battle I tried auto-battling like any other at this point goes horribly wrong within seconds. I die for the first time in forever (game balance is kind screwed at this point in the game) and have to redo 2 sub-bosses. When I finally make it back up again the final boss gets afflicted by the rare paralysis status on the third turn which completely immobilizes enemies and can't be recovered from. I kill him without having to heal.

beyond wanting to support the developer/publisher, running gideon and co's translation on an emulator would very likely be a superior experience on android anyway

Except that the SNES version's lack of a quick way to get to the map is a huge disadvantage compared to the remake/sequels.
Persona: Other than the map thing, what are the other pros and cons of this version vs the SNES one? |
Someone actually fixed that with a hack:

And even fixed a lot of bugs the orginal had along with updating some spell and demon race names:

Yes, they both work together. Also, one of my biggest problems with the SNES version was how you couldn't quickly preview demon fusion results in the menu. I only found out after finishing the game that you indeed can by holding right on the dpad AND pressing down R when selecting your demons. It was pretty bullshit. Still, the problem of how you have no idea what the stats of the things that are sold are until you buy them remains. _________________

The quick preview was only mentioned in AG's readme that came with the translation. The problem was that it mistakenly informs you of the SMT2 method instead which didn't require one to hold Right on the dpad as well I think. That whole txt has got a whole lot of errors in it actually. They really really stepped their game up with the awesome SMT2 one.
It was really pure chance of any of the stuff at the end happening. I think I got charmed by multiple enemies which caused my demons to near instantly kill themselves/me and paralysis' OP-ness is usually balanced out by there being no reliable way to inflict it similar to the Frozen status in Gen I Pokemon. My play time was way longer then it had any right to be is all I know. Does the game keep track of it? My SRM file might still be on this computer somewhere.
Here's a neat thing you may not have seen:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9058308
It's a compilation video of a lot of the stuff they added to the PC Engine version of SMT1, most notably a few animated cutscenes. Make sure to at least check out the very last one at the end of the video.
And oh god, google still has my spreadsheet saved

In the end it gave me my awesome final party at least:

| Anyone know anything about the mega cd port of this game? I just have an irrational preference for sega cd games. Of course, it is probably useless to me since I don't believe there is a translation patch for the mega cd version. It would be cool if there was though, because it would be easier to play it on original hardware. |
Not much other then what HG101 tells me:

| SIMS also brought SMT to the Sega Mega CD, actually remaking it in the process. Using the scaling capability of the system, this version actually features smooth scrolling instead of the jerky movement in the other games. It's a little sluggish though, and can be turned off. All of the graphics have been redone with more detail, and while they look far better, they're also quite pixellated. Other graphical touches have been added - character portraits are added to all conversations (some are clearly digitized people, others are artwork, which is a little strange), you can actually see multiple demons on the battlefield instead of just a single one, and there are some new graphics for some voiced cutscenes, most notably the intro. Much of the music is also remixed CD audio, and is quite good. The text font is larger, allowing for the use of kanji. Overall, definitely a nice port. |

The answers you seek are surely held in Ronde and Giten, DAIS. _________________

Stay strong in these hard times!
I remember the mind labyrinth being the most difficult area in the game for me. Had some particularly annoying demons with just the worst status effects. The best way to deal with them was just fuse one of your own since they leave you alone if you have one their kind in your party (except during happy hour full moon of course). When I was tragically defeated by the spider boss at the end I felt no shame in reloading my save state just before her and trying again instead of redoing that maze.
Actually didn't know about the small scenes that occur when the Light Sword is inspected. Neat. _________________
