E3 2014: cynicism and disappointment

I'm sure there's going to be a more happy, rational threads about masturbatory video game press conferences on the internet, but those won't have the fine denizens of selectbutton spamming whatever dumb reactions they have to vidcons

so, holy shit, these things are tomorrow/today (for those of you in not-America) and all promise to give you dubious reasons to pay hundreds of dollars for the pleasure of waiting for the games they show off to come out

so, 9 AM PDT is when these things start when Microsoft tries its best to act surprised when they announce Halo 2 Anniversary and who knows, maybe they'll announce new games

I am expecting lots of cinematic AAA games but I can't wait to be cautiously queasy about a new Phantom Dust. Typically I'd expect lots of indie games at the Sony conference with 3-months PS exclusivity but I have no idea how this Microsoft "launch with us or else" policy is going to change things.

the MS and Sony pressers will be viewable on their respective consoles via one-time apps, Spike is showing the MS and EA pressers live (but not the Ubi and Sony shows, because Star Wars or Cops) and while I'll try to fish some links, honestly, you could just go to one of those game sites you hate and find a liok there

Sega's western Twitter account recently said that PSO2 is still coming and while I don't believe them for a goddamn second, I want to hope

sadly, for the first time since they started streaming the pressers online, I will have to miss an E3 because of work. Well, actually, I'm pretty happy about having a job, so I guess on the whole this still comes out to net positive.

I'm going to miss the boredom of watching this all live more than I have words to describe.

I'm at my favorite annual conference which happens to be in Helsinki this year and I'm trying to decide how much I should skip out on drunks with collaborators I only see a couple times a year and/or wake up at 4am just so I can participate in this thread in real time

I assume anything really interesting for the 3DS or Vita will be announced at TGS rather than E3, barring maybe a couple new first-party titles.
