AFAIK there isn't already a dedicated thread for this so rather than continue to spread posts of this nature across various KoP/Axe threads I figured it'd be more convenient on everyone's behalf to have all discussions of sales and the like gathered into one place.
This weekend there's a flash sale on PSN, with a decent-sized handful of titles discounted down to a measly buck apiece. I just got Machinarium, The Cave, Worms Revolution and Double Dragon Neon, and I'll probably head back to grab Thomas Was Alone.
Other potential items of interest include Papo & Yo, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD, Dyad, Legend of Dragoon, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Wild Arms 1 & 2, and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. Are any of these must-haves? _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

I somehow got excited for Worms Revolution despite every game they've made since Armageddon being a step back (I think because they were offering Armageddon free on Steam for the first time if you bought it) and nope, it was crap, oh well
Papo & Yo is alcoholic father favela Ico. I didn't really get into the demo but it seems like there's a lot to like if it does anything for you thematically.
Dino Crisis 2 is notable for being the only commercially released evidence that DMC didn't just spring forth from Kamiya's skull fully-formed as the definitive way to make a 3D action title, but you wouldn't necessarily love it in 2014
and B-grade PSX-era jRPGs are generally agreed to not age that well but if that's what you want then you should already have some idea |

Legend of Dragoon is rancid shit, but Wild Arms 1 is fun enough, and has one of videogames' best soundtracks.
Dyad wears out its welcome real fast and is not nearly as Space Giraffe as it wants to be. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

No, and this is coming from a guy who thinks that everyone should still be playing the CORE Tomb Raider games.
Wild Arms 2 is about as pure a 90s Anime/JRPG experience you can have without it being even a little bit offensive. It's like one of those "Here's how I'd fix Evangelion" fanfics. _________________

I only ever played the first one, back when it came out. I think the field/sprite art is rather pretty. The 3D battle models are hideous but kind of charming in a "they really didn't know how to use 3D yet did they" way. As a story it's a bunch of JRPG nonsense but somehow it is inoffensive rather than insufferable.
And it has the greatest soundtrack. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Dino Crisis 2 is neat as a step on the evolution to the later RE Mercenaries modes.
Double Dragon Neon is actually pretty darn fun? What the hell. |

The original Syphon Filter had smooth character animations for its time and a taser that you could set enemies on fire with by holding down the button.
The rest of the game was pretty shit but it had what at the time were considered good graphics which is what prompted me to play up to the subway level. I think there was a bomb on that level. Actually I think there may have been a bomb on every level.
Because the game was such a bomb. Kind of surprised it spawned all those sequels. Well, I guess it had what at the time were considered pretty good controls for an action game. I can't imagine it all not being horribly dated and clunky today.
But hell, it's $1. It was $40 or $50 when it was new lol. I only rented it back in the day after being impressed with a demo, though I did buy a cheap copy some years back just for the taser. Best part of the game, electrocuting people to death until they caught fire. _________________

The final PSP game, which got a PS2 port, is supposed to be really good.
Wild Arms 1 is a walking simulator. Its storytelling is lightwieght enough to fly a balloon. Wild Arms 2 is more of a proper JRPG story, and I really liked some of the character decisions they made. For instance the main character has a girlfriend who is not a party member, and he goes and hangs out with her inbetween being sent on missions. Wild Arms 2 also has a proper battle system, which class differentiations for each character. WA1 felt like the default options in an RPG maker program.
I played the original PS Mini version of Velocity and really liked it. You do have to get about 1/4th of the way through the game before they trust you enough to give you all of the controls for your ship, though. I don't know why they thought it would be a good idea to try and trick people into thinking they're playing a euroshooter at the start, but i guess they thought it was a good enough idea they kept it for the remake. _________________

yeah like graphically it is kinda hideous, but taht sorta works for it? it's weird. I mean, it does have that wayforward problem of sometimes things aren't fully thought out (the trap dodging is, well, dodgy), but it doesn't drag it down like some of the other WF games.
Syphon Filter was from that Sony era when Sony really wanted to have its own franchises and convince everyone to care about them. They still do this, but yeah, SF was never really much fun aside from the impossible tazer. |

Ah fuck it, I just ended up getting all of the Wild Arms/Dino Crisis games at once, plus Harvest Moon to boot. They were just... so cheap. SO CHEAP. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

Also: the Uncharted Vita game by the Syphon Filter devs is a decent imitation of the console Uncharteds. For what that's worth. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

Club Nintendo elite status rewards for the 2013/14 year are in. Depending on the number of Nintendo Fun Points you've amassed over the past year, you can get Game & Wario, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, NES Remix, Earthbound, Wario Land 2, Super Mario Land 2, or one of a handful of other games for free.
I'm personally leaning toward Earthbound, but G&W and DKCR3D are kinda tempting given the value (both are retail games, and normally priced accordingly). They're also both games that I'm curious to try, but not enough to spend actual money on them. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |

DDNeon is pretty shit, sluggish as hell and not fun, but for a buck I'd pick it up for the music and the other handful of enjoyable/amusing aspects sprinkled throughout the game.
(Batman: The Brave and the Bold on the DS is infinitely less bad than DDN, the Wii version seemed pretty neat from what little I played of it too)
Also I bought the first two Syphon Filters on a whim, after the comments in this thread guess I won't ever bother playing em lol |

There's Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PS1 Classic) for $4 bucks this week. Should I get it, wait for another sale with an even better price, or wait for the fan translation of the PSP port that those dicks at Atlus USA didn't localise? _________________ Get Xenoblade Chronicles!

Get it!
Even if the PSP version is translated, would the western save file work on a fan-translated version of the Japanese game? _________________

The only thing keeping an american save file from working on a jp copy of any game is literally a string of text saying "JPversion=0". I can't remember the games, but there's been fan translated sequels that will accept save files from the first games. Conception II in english will even recognize japanese saves, and there's no way ATLUS would have spent any amount of effort on that bomb. _________________

Oho, interesting! I wonder if it displays the characters' names in Japanese then.
What I really want, and I think I brought this up in the past, is to make a program to convert a PSP save file of P2:IS and convert it into a PS1 save file for P2:EP so I could transfer my data over and continue playing. _________________

Square Enix is having a PSN sale too. Most of their Final Fantasy games (spinoffs included) are half off, along with a few other titles (including the PS1 port of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross).
I already have most of the games in the sale, but I might pick up FF4 Complete and (probably against my better judgment) Dissidia Duodecim for PSP at $10 apiece. _________________ Just another savage day on Planet Earth. |
