hello you knee biters and knuckle biters. it's time for a Glam thread about all those crazy funky digital worlds we inhabit.
i'm talking about of course our favorite 3D dot game heroes worlds of pixelated mountains and glittering water. orange skies over low-poly cliffs or retro simulations of the net from a bygone era like Cybermage.
this is standard fare from games like Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy where the world tries to seem realistic or at the very least grounded in some type of realism. what games have your favorite worlds that don't need to make sense? _________________

Rez is probably my favorite that meets this criteria. An abstract representation of the inner cyber world of computers being hacked into and such.
I'm struggling to come up with other games that even meet this criteria. _________________

LSD is what I immediately think of that meets this criteria. There's probably some great PS1-era game worlds I am forgetting. _________________

I've thought about this for a day now and honestly can't come up easily with any world that I like "best".
Maybe because I am a sucker for bgms that make a world "work" for me? Maybe because they often feel like setpieces?
Idk … but still, the following few came to mind:
The wonderful wacky worlds presented in recent Rayman games, just watching what goes on onscreen can be fun, and it might be exactly that feeling of fun that Ubi managed to capture perfectly well recently.
The Katamari games have wonderful places to experience a lot of odd/weird stuff going on, e.g. Kajiu-monsters chasing planes and 'stuff.
Resonance of Fate / End of Eternity had a nice idea of integrating towns and dungeons in a tower. FF Crystal Chronicles, Magna Carta 2 and Baten Kaitos Origins also had nice (RPG-esque) worlds, but somehow I cannot put my finger on any of these and say "yupp, this is why I like that world".
But maybe I've been approaching this too seriously,

does make me think of entirely different games now. I'll be back after thinking about this! _________________

This thread needs more screenshots.
Is Another World too obvious to mention?
I think it's partly the names of the areas, but Realm of Impossibility always felt to me like I was really exploring somewhere alien.
And, of course, there's Space Harrier. Aside from the colorful look of the place, few worlds have music to match that one.
