Unlike some of the dissenters in this thread, I have been thoroughly enjoying this series so far, but Episode 5 was a pretty big letdown. It promises to be about "RPG music" but is 100% about Uematsu and Final Fantasy and the annoying nerds (sorry it's true) who think it's awesomely legitimate to play Final Fantasy music with real orchestras. They literally didn't even mention another game (/series) or composer. You can't have an 8/16-bit JRPG music discussion without at least mentioning Yasunori Mitsuda.
Til now the series has been getting into some relatively deep cuts (ignoring Koji Kondo in preference to Hip Tanaka, that's bold) but this episode was as lame as its detractors make out the whole series to be. |
There are a lot of Final Fantasy fans, dude. They probably enjoyed it. They already had Shimomura in the context of SF2 who has become a JRPG staple as well.
this series was really cool I don't need 2 hour interviews with one person, i enjoyed the bite size interviews especially when you got a glimpse at the occasional emotion like wistfully recalling being young adults at the start of a career or mixed feelings about moving on from the industry |
