Man I am excited about Persona Q maybe it will be the Etrian Odyssey I can finally enjoy. The grind is just too much in EO proper. Just hours and hours of grinding so that you can move to the next floor and hit another brick wall. It wasn't just that grinding took a long time, it was that the reward for grinding was so small. Level 6 to Level 7 felt like a maybe 5% jump. It was way way to incremental and I would get burnt out on not being able to move forward because moving forward would wipe my party, and my other option was sit there and grind for another two hours.
I got things to do man!
There are a bunch of trailers out for this right now. Guess the VA for Margaret from P4AU is also in this. I do not like her take on Margaret. Completely bored lifeless reading from the page lines. The VA for P4G/P4 was trying to hide her fascination. I feel it the new VA is probably acting according to direction, but that direction is so off.
I think this is the last new release I'm buying this year. If I hate it will be happy to sell it to an SBer that would be interested.

Alright I'll try to explain. I don't think the battle system is 80 hour good. Most games action/RPG/whatever can't hold under 80 hours of scrutiny. Yet in RPGs this is frequently expected. Or they break it up with story and other elements. There is a tiny story to SMTIV that in a 5 hour game would be interesting. In an 80 hour game it's miniuscle and not worth it.
It's my own failing that I actually played through SMTIV hoping for more story than there is. But to people playing it you're going to be doing the same thing at hour 1 that you are at hour 15 at hour 30 at hour 60. For some of y'all that's a great thing. For me it isn't. I just looked at the game and went "you could cut half of this game and it would still be fairly long and not lose anything."
I've said this several times on Hinge Problems at this point, but RPG's time wasting is unacceptable. If you told me an FPS or a STG took 40 hours I'd tell you I wasn't playing that game. Yet as soon as it is in an RPG context an absurd length is absolutely okay.
Clearly the answer is I just should don't play these games. Yet there's some sort of appeal for me buried in there. I liked that very recently there's been push back against what Nocturne is. Y'all dudes that really like Nocturne are free to like it as much as you do! But it is an incredibly hard brutal game that doesn't appeal to everyone.

Man! I done can't do quests and explore when anything outside the first level murders me. I explained that before. I ecountered this both in EOIII and EOIV (which gives you more freedom, but the grind was still miserable.)
There is a form I enjoy of SMT and that's Persona 4. I've played through it twice! I will probably play through a third time in the next 5 years. I'm gonna buy Persona 5 probably on release date and struggle through it in Japanese. The Persona games are long RPGs that offset it with the S-Link system which hits this perfect balance in my brain to bounce between the two so I don't get bored.
The answer for SMTIV might have also not binged through it in 2 weeks and play it out over 2 months. The problem with that is the game gives so little direction of where to go you'd easily get forget what you were doing. There is that 20 hour chunk where the plot just drops away until you magically stumble across it again.
