Just wrapped up DmC after a 3 month hiatus. I must say, Ninja Theory has a killer eye for art direction. Almost all the environments were luscious and unique through out the game.
Fantastic monster designs too.
Too bad everything else falters dramatically. The dialogue is atrocious. The music is generic and the plotting is quite underdeveloped and withering.
Pales in comparison to NT's previous titles.
Speaking of which, I have just fired up Heavenly Sword in preparation for Hellblade (despite it coming in 2016). |

I'm not gonna be able to finish Heavenly Sword. Up to chapter 3 where I'm trying to save redhead's father with Bjork-elf in some gallery shooting shitfest where I'm rewarded more for using the sixaxis gimmick to kill enemies off instantly (while intentionally making it harder to kill them normally).
Yea, how about I push the power-button gimmick and instakill this shitty game.
WOW. |

Haven't got the internet on my computer yet.
But yes, I shall investigate the possibilities once I do and report back immediately! |

I'm close to giving up on Valkyria Chronicles. What was once seen as innovative (real-time limited play for each turn) is becoming a glaring flaw now seen no less than an irritating gimmick.
What is the point of aiming in real-time when the result in execution falls back on a die-roll of probability homely to tactical rpgs and strategy games? I'm a sniper and I aim perfectly at the head without ever claiming the notorious victory "headshot!" seen in pretty much every other shooter. Wait, why am I even aiming? What's the point? Just get those crosshairs red and push X already, Einstein! I suppose it makes more sense because the guy is just standing there FROZEN LIKE A DAINTY DUCK. Oh wait, that doesn't make any fucking sense at all, whoops! Worse yet, if I leave my unit in real-time, the enemy in close proximity has an infinite amount of "turns" to send my Josie into the heavens. Oh no! I'm too close! I gotta select my unit and quickly smash R1 before I get killed!! NOPE, TOO LATE. It must be some kind of Point Blank reference.
Fuck this game.
We're talking about two modes of play that would be better off as separate games altogether, rather than the bipolar state that it frantically assembles itself in.
Truly dumb design. |

I like RE4, with some reservations.
I didn't really like the setpieces except that one town early on. |
EXACTLY.
I swear all the influences that harbored the over-the-shoulder camera system missed the entire point of why RE4 made such an impact.
That first area is a masterstroke of design. Every single part (including the purpose of the binoculars) made that area sublime. That was the impact it had on me. It dwindle very soon after.
I still think RE1 is the best. I like the cutting system where the camera has a fixed point. I think there is more to be explored with that kind of set up.
Devil May Cry "perfected" it IMHO. |
