Hm, okay.
Starting next week I'll make an online matchmaking forum, as well as start doing a weekly SB game club on the front page (or bi-weekly depending on game length, etc). I'll talk to John Mc about doing that, if not I wouldn't mind doing it unless someone else really wants the job. These will be trial runs to see how they work out.
Also, guardian, fwiw I think you've improved a lot as a poster.
Not enough to change your custom title, though. Unless you wouldn't mind "won't shut up about narrative" instead. :) _________________

Hey Toups, I know I make my little petulant remarks from time to time, and (because) I'm pretty sure you don't think much of me, but even though I (like thatbox) view this as "our forum" I respect you for stepping to the plate and caring enough to make sure this forum is as cool as it can be. _________________

Okay uh, I started lurking around june 2006 and I couldn't really be bothered to join, because while the place was good if you wanted a good read on video games or just a good laugh, the flurry of inside jokes were apparent and for some reason everyone seemed to hate on Killer7 back then and since its my favorite game, I didn't feel all that welcome.
When SB was formed I thought I'd try to blend in with the community since everything was started anew and stuff. It wasn't all that different from IC, except i could see the axe and I discovered that liking Killer7 wasn't sacrilegious(sp?) here.
I mostly lurk in King of posters and that other section for general chattering because since I'm a lazy teenager(and I don't have a mega-brain like Patsy-chan), I often don't have a strong opinion on a game or any will to debate so I only post a one-paragraph opinion in threads that have something to do with games I like. I don't know if this makes me a axe-only poster everyone seems to dislike, but I don't give a fuck if it does anyway.
In short, I think the place is great, and while some people here do deserve a huge slap in the face, I love the community.
Oh and about James, yeah sure he can write long, informative posts about games, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a gigantic obsessive douchebag. |

I don't remember joining IC..I probably lurked a lot though.
Forums like NeoGAF didn't really offer enough depth of discussion, so I signed up here..
I might not post much about games, usually because someone has already voiced a similar opinion to mine - and posting "i concur" is a bit pointless eh?
Still, the general forums are pretty good - especially for finding out about new music & whatnot. |

I still wonder why SB is trying so hard to be IC (or not IC).
Maybe it's just me but it seems like people are thinking too much about whether this is a proper sequel to IC, if topics are like they would have been on IC and so on.
SB should be SB and move on ... "too much looking back might make it stumble and fall" *Yedi-wisdom-applied here* _________________

It'd be cool if the IC color theme also changed the big orange and green SELECTBUTTON logo to a nice purple/grey one. _________________

Excellent, vision!
Now it makes this place much easier to view on this IC theme. Also make it easier to whine about how "it just isn't the same" ;p _________________

no no no. TRANS TRANS TRANS
I will bring Trans to Kentucky. We will bump Trans. I think I may need to ghost ride my whip to Trans.
So yeah, SB is doing well if I can say all of this. |

I admit it, I have not listened to ragged glory. but Trans is all about the synth and such, and led directly to the totally awesome Moog Cookbook version of Rockin' in the Free World, so it will always be the best.
EDIT: Also, I contend that Trans is the only NY album one can ghost ride to. |

Devo and Neil should've done a musical collaboration, man.

| It is almost hard for me to imagine them not doing it. Devo did a wicked cover of "four dead in Ohio", which isn't surprising since on of the member of the band saw the shooting, but for some reason I don't have a copy of it. |

Wait.
Wait.
Neil should direct another film, or a documentary, and Mark Mothersbaugh should score it. |

This should happen right now. Mark should score it, but he should let out all his bitterness over current politics and such in the soundtrack. It will be so wonderful. |

I've waited to post in this thread because it's long as ass, for one, and also I didn't quite know what to say. Now it seems we're at thread-denoument banter, which is cool, but I guess I'm gonna ruin the party by comin up in here all serious like. As a "new guy" I'm not sure how much weight my opinion carries, but then it's probably useful to have opinions from people who never did the IC thing.
I came to IC through Tim's articles, which seems to be pretty common. I didn't post on the forums, nor did I even lurk; the forums moved too fast, I was too busy, and the community was fairly impenetrable. By the time I got this desk job and some downtime, SB had been born. I hung out on LPN enough to get the gist of the drama, but basically I don't care about it.
SB is the only forum I post on. I check every forum except the Axe (moves too fast, impenetrable) and most of the threads.
Personally, I do feel a little alienated by the "gamey" threads and far more appreciate the deep-theory discussions. This probably has mostly to do with the fact that my newest system is a PS2 and my computer is four years old. Still, I like to stay on top of things and certainly would never begrudge anyone their "hey [Japanese words all look the same to me] is coming to the US" thread.
Indeed, there is no reason to curtail any kind of discussion, really. Only to engender more of the discussion that each of us wants. It's not as if the message board is going to run out of space. Frontpaging good discussions could help, but I don't have enough website administration experience to give any practical advice on how that should be done.
(Not that I read the frontpage anyway... I find out about frontpage articles through Force Feedback.)
On a general community level, I find all the people here intelligent and reasonably open-minded, with a good sense of how much and what kind of humor is appropriate for any given discussion. I've always felt welcome and never ostracized for my relative newness (well I think joe dismissively called me a Tim Rogers fanboy once, but joe will be joe). For someone who doesn't have the whole huge history of this corner of the internet in mind every time he comes to visit, you dudes are doing a damn fine job. _________________ Let's Play, starring me. |

Shut up guys. This thread is about Neil Young right now.
1. Ragged Glory
2. Sleeps with Angels
3. On the Beach
4. Zuma
5. Live Rust
6. Trans
Those are my top six Neil Young albums, in order. |
