And how long have you been doing it for?

What's a good way to keep it maintained? I've sorta got a thing where I'll sit down to write a single post and six pages will spill out. Because of that, I wind up not writing so much because I sorta don't want to be there all night sometimes.

I'm forcing myself to start putting shit down on proverbial paper again anyway. I had a longstanding blog at 1UP a while back, and I remember really liking doing it. For whatever reason, after I stopped doing it to do a failed stint at Deeko.com, I could just never get back into it, though I've always sort of wanted to. I loved the fact that I could thumb back through it and go "Oh yeah, I remember that".

So, I'm starting mine back up, in the hopes I'll actually stick with it this time. Maybe if I read other people's a lot, it'll inspire me to keep my own up? Worth a shot!

Weirdly, I actually got the idea for re-starting it 'cause I wanted to redo my banner on here. I never really liked the post-IC one I had. It had always linked to my (empty) livejournal, though. In making a new SB banner (5 minutes in photoshop for a semi-visually arresting strip of graphic wheee!), I wound up just chucking the game of my blog on there, then going "shit, I should really start working on one of those again."

I think what you're looking for is Fort90's blog. He manages to write long things about interesting things, pretty gosh danged regularly:
http://www.fort90.com/journal/

And I know kappuru has a brand new one that looks nice:

stotelheim intermittently tries to get me to start one. It looks suspiciously like work to me, and the blog is the new resume so it feels like there's pressure.

Do I feel good about thinking-out-loud about buying a 320GB USB external harddrive for $90 but probably not actually going through with it?

Or considering getting some $150 Grado headphones since my current set of KSC-75s broke and I've been listening to only the right channel for the past week?

Or maybe back-pattingly quoting myself: "The simple truth is that despite the wanton inaccuracies of Wikipedia, the masses are still better informed now than before -- which may not be saying much, but it's a little thing we call "progress." "

Or would I blither about having a crush on a singer girl from New Zealand?

Or spill the beans on ideas of inventions and businesses that I never put much work into -- but if I put them out in public then I don't have as much legal ground to stand on in the event that I do work on one but somebody cuts me off at the pass.

Or just whine about not having enough scratch or motivation to travel, research, and invent.

Blegh. I'm gonna go water the lawn.

I saw a pair of used Eggo D66 and thought of you, Rud.

Edit: Oh, dang. I could get a used pair of the ATH-EC7 headphones that I'd like for about $70 shipped. Hey, DJ, are those A8s going to be the pair that you've been using, or one of the boxed ones that was lying around?

I've maintained a rambling, unfocused blog for several years as a sort of mind-dump. I'll friend you, Deusjester, and then you can take a half-second and note that I have nothing of interest to say.

"Don't be concerned that I have nothing of interest to say" is really the only way I have of keeping it up.

I write by hand for 2-3 hours most days as well, so its usefulness as an outlet is a bit suspect, but I still keep it around for reasons I can't quite figure out.

I've got a blog that I've been running for, oh I dunno, five years or so now?

I used to update it daily, but as I grow older, I seem to give less and less of a shit about what goes on in the world on a day-to-day basis.

I have the livejournals for posting in fairly regularly, and inverted castle for every once in a while when I have something semi-salient to say about video games.

I got bored and started occasionally writing something in the new LJ account I got a while back, but I haven't anything interesting to say and I so hate the sort of self-indulgent rambling that is the majority of the content of most blogs. Including mine, to be honest. It just doesn't sit right with me to whine about my problems on the Internet. Feel free to say hi if you're bored, though.

I've had a livejournal for more than six years. It's strange to look at entries from a long time ago, mainly because it amazes me what an idiot I was. tokyOMG is my scheme to get more of my photography noticed, as well as make money off of ads.

BotageL, your LJ handle defies my assumption that your SB handle was pronounced "boat-a-jel" which always made me think of some sort of strange east-Asian-herb-flavored hair product. (and/or Legato B spelled backwards)

I have a LiveJournal I haven't written in in two years, and even then, it was something like 8 months between entries.

The pronunciation of BotageL is disputed.

I toy with having one every so often, but I update it for a couple of months and invariably delete it when I don't really have anything interesting to say. I don't have many friends who are into blogging either, so there isn't much potential for comments, trackbacks and all that nonsense with anything I do.

I do kinda like the idea though, I'd kinda like to have a reference to things that were going on / dumb thoughts I had years ago as Kappuru touched on and maybe if I'd got in on livejournal a few years back when it was really popular I'd have kept one.

Edit: Without fail, any time I reply to a thread without quoting the post I am replying to, someone else will post in the interim.

I wonder how many people realize/remember that it was LegatoB before.

northnowhere.com is a half blog/place to post my writing. I'm kind of looking for more writers to pad it out though. A lot of people have promised me content and never delivered.

Also, broke computer makes it hard to update. Still, DPS linked me without me having to ask. Thanks DM.

I occassionally post on my LJ.. normally from work, when I'm really bored and ought to be doing other things.

And here's something I should make a post about.. but I'm not really in the mood to do so at the moment...
Gustav Holst's The Panet Suite in midi.
Because... Jupiter.

Thread resurrection in the hopes that more people answer this.

Also, since closing my LiveJournal and moving back to 1UP.com (click the banner below my post to read), my output has gone from virtually nothing to several decent-sized posts a week.

Why? 1UP sucks. I do not understand the compulsion. But there you go.

Your LiveJournal layout was incredible, DJ. I really only saw it a couple of times, since I just read everyone's from my friends list, but man. That thing had style.

Thanks! I spent a lot of time on that (like double digits worth of hours), but had maybe five pages worth of stuff over a year. I think I've put more on my 1UP page in the under-a-month I've been back on it.

I dunno! I loved the idea of LJ, but it always felt weird to write about games on there. And I don't really do the personal blog thing, for whatever reason. My life isn't all that interesting, so it feels weird to have that be a primary subject -- but, it's like that's what an LJ is for, you know?

So I dunno. I don't like personal sites, I want to write about something other than myself.

I do try to carry the same semblance of uniformity to my 1UP blog. All the pictures are the same width (either the full blog width or 240px), everything kinda gets formatted the same way, and I try to make it easy to read.

I started a weekly blog, in the hoping that it would make me produce some artwork if I semi-internet-committed to it.. 3 weeks in (or is it a month?) and i'm no closer to having anything painted or drawn..

eventually I'll get round to doing stuff. eventually.

I also had a game|blog for a while with a few other people mostly from the shmups.com forums. I had that for a couple years, now I've had a LJ for a couple years... so yeah.

i don't write in it at all. mostly because there are too many other people writing about games who are better. i just use it to "bookmark" scraps of interesting things which i find, and play with web design.

i'd love to get a bunch of peeps together to do a combo-blog. i could just design it and everyone else could write and we'd all dance in a meadow and be happy.

I have had the same issue, but recently I just decided to fuck it and go ahead and contribute to the fall of Western society by starting to post regularly. It's good for your personal development, to vent emotion, to gain proficiency writing, to have something to look back to and shake your head in disbelief at when you get older, etc.

It's a Livejournal. Guess my user name.

As far as I'm aware 1UP is the only even remotely-reasonable videogame centric blog site.

Of course then you're whoring yourself to Ziff Davis. For free.

Does livejournal count? To me, it's never seemed like an official BLOGGING SPACE. Just, Livejournal. I mean, if it counts, great! (Link at bottom) But, I've never understood how bloggers get noticed. Is it just through links in other blogs and websites? Just, all of the attention from either the media or underground or specialized circles, yeah? That's how it works?

I just spill out stuff. Recently, I've been linking a FEW mp3s, but, that's about it.

I have a blog that's alive since 2002.
I'm pretty tired of the german videogames-blogging scene my blog kinda falls into.

I used to post weekly but rarely find time to update more than once a month these days, partly due to my intentions of playing more games instead of reading/writing about them, partly due to a general lack of interest in (actively) gaming.
Because, if I'm honest, the only gaming-related thing I do these days is browsing SB.

I hope that changes when I buy a 37" Toshiba next week :)

I've had a website since 2001, and started running it as a joint operation with my cousin in 2003. Eventually he and other contributors left, I stopped writing actual articles or content and the front page devolved into a personal blog.

I've never gotten positive responses for it from anyone, and not even my wife reads it. But this one kid sent me a hate-mail once three years back threatening to make me an awful link of the day. And according to my web stats, sometimes people misspell the same words in Google that I misspell in my posts and they find my site. I hope they connect with me, like "Wow, me and that guy both misspelled the same thing, I should check back here from now on for more exciting updates" but that doesn't seem to happen.

But blogs are nice to go back to. Everyone should write, really. And extra points to anyone who can stick to a personal website, though I must admit its less of a hassle to update something if it uses Web 2.0.

I used to link to my group's artblog in the past, but I don't now because well, I only posted in it twice and only do it every couple of months or so...

Where do you guys find/make the time to do it daily? I have a hard time just keeping up with some (I like to read FortNinty's from time to time.)
