I use Firefox on Mac because I like things like Adblock Plus (for custom blocking), Greasemonkey, and the extension I wrote for adding things to my linklog. Safari's extensibility just isn't there yet for my needs. Does it support mouse gestures yet?
Apps I like:
Cog is nice for Winamp-like music-playing (including ogg, ape, and flac support).
Textwrangler is a free text editor that does everything I need it to (syntax highlighting, tabbed-ish editing, editing over FTP/SFTP, search/replace with regular expressions and multiple files, etc.
I use Cyberduck for FTP and secure FTP, but it's painfully slow sometimes, especially when doing batch uploads or downloads. I use command-line sftp quite a bit for this, too.
Mayjay is a pretty decent little JDICT interface, though its results are way too broad when you're searching on English terms.
Vienna for RSS.
Colloquy for IRC. It's got one of the nicest IRC interfaces I've seen (I like nice GUIs for managing the multiple channels I waste time in).
Mail.app is basically the same as Thunderbird, which is what I was used to on XP.
Tomato Torrent is a very light and no-nonsense Bittorrent app. It lets me throttle upload/download speeds and isn't rejected by my usual trackers.
MPlayerOSX handles MKV playback for me, though it lacks remote support. I need to get Perian up and running.
I would really like an easy way to play the variety of emulated video game music formats I used to throw at Winamp. Audio Overload sucks, and so does Richard Bannister. |
