i kind of don't like visiting the site since it is a time capsule of what i did with my free time as a teenager
l33t.rud13: same here.
I think everyone enjoyed it till they reached the point where SHIT THE PLOT DOESN'T MOVE.
I tend to check it every couple of months just to see if it does.
me: i didnt check it for 1 1/2 years
then came back and was kind of disgusted by how little it had moved

Nevermind that in actual Japanese society, the name suffixes are usually dropped, unless they actually have a nickname that involves them. And then it wouldn't be fucking ping-san.

I wonder if any of the girls have gotten naked, yet. Like, I know he's drawn them naked elsewhere (thanks to a 4chan SPECIAL INVESTIGATIVE TEAM) but I mean in the comic proper. It's at that point that I think some cosmic machine will be switched on and a new age of darkness and shadow will begin.

Moment of plot progression: Piro wakes up with the voice actress girl asleep on his chest. http://megatokyo.com/strips/0984.gif

Immediately followed by a stick figure Dom day. http://megatokyo.com/strips/0985.gif

Immediately followed by a "lol my wife wants me to draw a comic for her silly feminist mumblings" day. http://megatokyo.com/strips/0986.gif

At one point, Largo's girl is in her underwear, because Largo insists that clothes must be off in order to build computers. Largo and model girl make out at one point but then an unspecified awkward thing happened and they did not progress past that point.

The girls are now openly portrayed as having habitual amounts of sexual experience, though neither of them have gone all the way with Piro or Largo yet.

The last month has been garbage fucking bullshit non-story which has nothing to do with the meandering plot, and is illustrated by some other artist. Piro is currently on a world-tour vacation, and can't be arsed to do anything.

Around April or so, he did an alternate reality side story where Piroko is a secret service agent infiltrating a teenaged-girl sex-slave trade ring. Like, everyone here just sit around and imagine yourself as a girl version of yourself who is infiltrating a sex-slavery syndicate, and you'll have an idea of what Piro thinks about.

As Rud13 put it:
Rud13: man, yuri fanfiction about his own god damn universe
    you go Piro
    how low can you go

I have a Pandora's Box level of curiosity regarding those LOLNAKED drawings. Are they the dorky pseudo-tactful semi-artistic overly-posed things that I imagine them to be?

Ugh. I probably don't really want to know.

Yes. Yes they are.

God I remember when they were first posted on 4chan. That was fucking glorious.

I'm thinking it odd that I never even read this when I was a teenage animu addict. even with my roommate checking it all the time and printing strips out to pin on our door of geekery. I COULD'VE ENJOYED IT BACK THEN!

some guy from the dorm even stopped by the room to say how much he liked the strip about l33tspeak and I was like "oh? huh, oh right"

I enjoyed Megatokyo when I was, like, 14 or something. I think it was because a lot of the early strips were like a watered-down version of the typical Penny Arcade-style webcomic, with Largo's l33tspeak and the quarreling-buddies relationship of the characters. Since I had never read any other webcomics and hadn't been on the internet much, this style was novel and (reasonably enough) entertaining to me at the time.

A little while before Largo (Rodney, was his name?) left, it seemed to get a lot slower and more incoherent. It actually got slightly better after Largo left because it seemed like Fred was trying to compensate for his absence, but I still thought it was time to leave. Which it was.

It amazing that the story is still so slow, though. I wonder if it's exponential or logarithmic?

Captain Caveman & Predator Goose:
Piro is on vacation. The last month of the comic was drawn by someone else. The stuff you've seen has nothing to do with the actual "plot." What you are seeing is not an accurate depiction of the "comic."

It is, however, an accurate depiction of how poorly the thing is managed. Think of Piro as the American equivalent of a Densha Otoko: Nerdy sumbitch who wins success and popularity by erratically pencil-drawing a mediocre webcomic based off of his daydream of moving to Japan and hooking up with a voice actress. He VERY VERY FREQUENTLY cannot manage to draw the strips on time, so he'll usually put up shitty stick figures drawn with a trackball, unrelated scribbles, or wife-indulgent strips to satisfy her desire to say something (anything).

I saw a thread somewhere that went something like this:

Guy 1: Holy crap, I think Piro's art is actually getting a little better. Look!
Guy 2: No, he's just got someone to fill in for him while he's on vacation.
Guy 1: Oh, now it makes sense.

I think the filler stuff is the most entertaining the strip has been in years, though that's not saying much. I think Largo kept him from going too emo.. and now it's just ass on a cracker. I go look at it once every 6 months now and usually end up shaking my head. One thing I did notice:

http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=1005
http://www.megatokyo.com/index.php?strip_id=1015

Is it just me or are the 'roughs' better than the 'final'?

By the by, the dude filling in is the AppleGeeks guy: http://www.applegeeks.com/

the art is so poor. so..."how to draw manga"-ish.

Just you.

Also I think the last month has been an utter waste of time, worse than just saying "Gone for now, be back later" and not updating at all.

But yeah, everybody has different opinions.

Mind you, I did say it's not saying much. It's really not that much better.

I think he got a fill-in if only to not get more hate mail about how he never updates. The funny part is it looks like Hawk actually updated more consistently than Piro does.

I think Piro is a slave to the comic. He can never quit it without pretty much ruining all of his income. Even if he hates it (which for some reason I suspect he does), he couldn't really quit. I guess at least he's not working 'for the man' or whatever.

Fair enough? Still a difference of opinion, though.

In its "intended" form, I find it interesting enough to check up on every 3 to 6 months. If it were like the current guest arc all the time, then I would never return.

I do vaguely enjoy his art style, I don't know why. It's not horrid. But jesus fuck Piro is not a writer. Glorified self-insert fanfiction where a bunch of pretty anime girls are in love with the perfect misunderstood little foreigner.

This comic was funny when I was 14 and Largo was writing jokes for it. Now? It's insanely horrid.

(TRUE STORY: I watched a lifetime special on this fat girl who got kidnapped and escaped from the trunk of a car, and in the interview she was wearing a Megatokyo shirt).

You know, this makes perfect sense. Checking back on Megatokyo it looks like I made it through all the guest strips thinking that they were overly indulgent crap. Then when I got to the piro strips I made it through two whole strips (not including the color one) before I wanted to vomit my lunch out. That shit is just aggresively bad.

Simon Belmont compares himself to Schrodinger's cat because he is afraid of life.

He is afraid that by allowing his life to continue, he is going to cause unpredictable change and bring his own despair.

However, regardless of whether the cat's state is finally observed and it's fate brought about, eventually, if the box is never opened the cat will simply starve, or run out of air.

Simon Belmont, why do you believe people won't like you?

or

Simon Belmont, why are you so afraid of making a few mistakes?

I mean I once vomited everywhere in a movie theater and everybody thought I was a drunk! And in the end even that social misstep of unprecedented personal magnitude ended up being no big thing at all!

I sort of followed MT until right after 9/11, when Fred posted this snippy little "The world doesn't deserve the gift of my godly entertainment right now" note.

I mean, if the guy didn't feel like drawing a silly comic about people with beach-ball heads after a tragedy like that that's fine, but he actually used the term deserve. And it wasn't just knee-jerk idiocy, he kept it up there all week.

SHIT GUYS DON'T GET BLOWN UP BY TERRORISTS OR FRED WON'T ENTERTAIN US!
