My notes tell me that Sigma Notation is something I must memorize perfectly, and I will also never need to actually use it. Only read it.

Sigma notation shouldn't be too hard to learn. It's just a compact way of writing a large, sometimes indefinitely large sum. It gets a little harder when they start teaching you things like how to properly evaluate indefinitely large sums.
And if you ever need to take Calculus you'll probably need an understanding of the sigma notation. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

I don't know what Toto posted (I've got a few image hosting sites at worked blocked to keep things from being too akward) but this might be more what he was trying to draw for you:
Unit Circle
Stolen from Wikipedia.
Edit: The numbers in parentheses are the x,y coordinates of the points by the way. Which happen to be the evaluated cosine and sine functions for that angle. So for 30 degrees, or pi/6, the point is (sqrt(3)/2, 1/2). which means that cos(pi/6) = sqrt(3)/2 and sin(pi/6) = 1/2. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |
