I am re-downloading Honey and Clover, probably gonna keep it permanently too.

I am going to watch a chick-anime because I want to cry like a girl.

Somebody watch this at the same time as me please.

Does anybody else here like to sometimes indulge and watch girl-films and anime and such.

I do.

Sometimes.

You'd watch Honey & Clover rather than Haibane Renmei?

I can't believe this but I can understand Ging completely here. No; Haibene Renmei is a very specific sort of recharge, about redemption, and Honey and Clover is much more general and energetic.

However, and I confess this now, my most common self-reflection re-energizing funny girlish anime is Azumanga Daioh. I doubt most of you can understand how much that show means to me. Anyway, Ging, I know where you're coming from here. Honey and Clover is really wonderful. It can revitalize you if you're in that proper mindset, so don't worry about what it "says" about you. Go for it.

Yep. I watched Haibane Renmei more recently, so I'm not turning there yet. It's more of a winter time show as well, and it only really ever gets me at the end.

It'll probably seem weirder to me now if I watch it though, after reading Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

Eventually I'll even get back to rewatching a lot of things prob, like Future Boy Conan.

With all this time I mean, I gotta have something to watch, if I don't like tv no more.

I will probably also watch Kiki's Delivery service.

Well maybe I should hold off on that one, it was still kinda recent.

I want to go back and rewatch Paranoia Agent.

Sou.

Anyway, yeah, off you go. H&C is in my top 5.

(Oh, and Kiki's is probably my favorite Miyazaki film, so that's a nice choice as well. Though I never thought of it as an emotional movie.)

Huh. I've never seen Kiki's.

Oddly. I've been wanting to rewatch Paranoia Agent for months and months, but I know exactly what happens so I've been restraining myself.

There so much else that I feel could do more for me. Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, Genshiken, Azumanga, some Bleach episodes, Last Exile before it turned messy, Kino's Journey, oh, I don't know. Often times, the idea of anime is more powerful than anime itself. It's really a wonderful format. I'm so disappointed that even after its American popularity we still have no true analogue.

Guys I am also totally right there with you on this. I actually make it a kind of tradition to watch Haibane Renmei all the way through every year on my winter break.

All the stuff mentioned is great stuff though I guess I've just never thought about it being very "girly" or whatever. I mean sure Honey & Clover is based off a shoujo I think but that kind of material really is perfect for exercising all the 'drama' emotions no matter where you're coming from.

H&C, HaiRen, and Kiki's are all just-shy of gender neutral. Slightly edging toward the girly. Female protagonists who are not in any way objectified, in worlds where things happen by acts of sentimentality rather than aggression.

Bottom line, they are all extremely well-told stories.

As soon as the movie finished, I went careening off in search of the OST, yeah. I think my most favorite track overall is Lounge. Still plays on that glitchy ~ououa~ piece, but slower with more ambiance.

All three of them, though -- Nigeru Mono, Lounge, and Byakkoya no Musume -- are ridiculously cool and fun to listen to. My simple mind cannot imagine a more fitting musical theme to go with that movie.

Considering the vast majority of the people I know who have cried over Honey and Clover are men, perhaps you will cry like a man.

Hearing you say this means I must now actually track down Honey and Clover and watch it in its entirety. I would explain except I don't want to get into a sincerity-measuring contest.

Kiki's IS my favorite from Miyazaki.

its refreshing to watch, because its a pretty happy and positive movie, whereas most movies have some pivotal conflict or negativity that drives the main characters to some end. kiki's story just sort of happens, happily. the world is really well realized. and I'm a Jiji fan.

*also, the scene with the dirigible is excellent. its so well executed. the supsense grips me every time.

Don't worry! Season 2 turns into a soap-opera, where the plot reaches its inevitable conclusion by way of raging stupidity and emoness.

Future Boy Conan will make you cry and remember your childhood. Especially the RPGs, and that one girl you really liked. Really, the entire SNES era of RPGs would probably be way different without the influence of that show.

Future Boy Conan also takes like two weeks to download, and is about as classic a 70s anime as there can be.

Also Miyazaki made it.

Hum. I'm going to compile a list of all the things that need to be watched and played this summer to give me juice that'll never end.

1. Honey and Clover (Because I'm actually going to art school in the fall!)

2. Future Boy Conan (This show is really long and dense. It takes a bit of patience to last the 8 episodes or so that will make it latch onto your heart and never let go)

3. Paranoia Agent (This show is amazing)

4. Mind Game (Duh. Probably watch this last.)

5. FLCL (yes.)

6. One Piece (This show makes me cry and cheer. The first bunch of seasons don't dwell on bullshit so long either. I wanna go back and watch the old ones. It's been years.)

7. Cowboy Bebop

8. Patlabor TV

9. Planetes (Actually reading the manga which I like more)

You know this list is getting long

Also my memory is really hazy and I can't remember which ones I need to watch!

My brothers, I will cry with you for Honey and Clover. I know I am a girl, but I don't cry over girl things often. So: Valid.

I have not seen more than 4 episodes of Haibane, because I've seen those 4 episodes TOO MANY TIMES. I should sit down and really clear that show.

Oh man, the first four episodes don't even get into the meat of it. Push a couple more episodes in, at least. Ep 6 was the hookshot for me.

funny because i really don't get a word he's saying.

i like to watch things that make me clench my fists over and over again. like that part in temple of doom where indy snaps out of it and starts punching the thuggees and the theme music kicks in.

I am a grim bastard; lover of cruel irony; I smile at roadkill. Few things make me cry -- not even the twitching and whimpering death of my dog (no relation to the previous roadkill comment). Anything that can get tears out of me, though, is something that I'll respect.

If teh animew doesn't move you that way, Apol, then that's okay. You've got plenty of company on your side. Those of us that are moved, though? It's not that we cry easy; it's that something about those stories strikes a chord. We end up treasuring those things.

It was that episode wasn't it? You know which one (not the ending). Gungrave was indeed very tear inducing at times.

yeah i think you can appreciate my gungrave love.

actually it was pretty much the last six or so episodes. basically everything that happens once shit hits the fan.

actually, no, i was crying before that. SPOILERS basically the worst was the ending credits where everyone was greeting brandon and the episode where brandon was supposed to go on the date with maria and realized that he had become a murderer and didn't deserve her anymore, even though he still loved her. the whole series i was screaming WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE JUST GET A FUCKING BREAK OKAY!

i need to watch it again sometime.

Yeah that was the episode I was refering too, actually. Also the episode where Grave was in Maria's old house with Mika, and his remembering when Maria hugged him after he was in a fight. Much boo hoo.

Also, the part in Galaxy Express 999 when Harlock realizes Tochiro has died and fused his soul with the Arcadia. I'd drink myself half way to death if my best friend did that too.
