I can't believe this but I can understand Ging completely here. No; Haibene Renmei is a very specific sort of recharge, about redemption, and Honey and Clover is much more general and energetic.
However, and I confess this now, my most common self-reflection re-energizing funny girlish anime is Azumanga Daioh. I doubt most of you can understand how much that show means to me. Anyway, Ging, I know where you're coming from here. Honey and Clover is really wonderful. It can revitalize you if you're in that proper mindset, so don't worry about what it "says" about you. Go for it. |
funny because i really don't get a word he's saying.
i like to watch things that make me clench my fists over and over again. like that part in temple of doom where indy snaps out of it and starts punching the thuggees and the theme music kicks in. _________________

It was that episode wasn't it? You know which one (not the ending). Gungrave was indeed very tear inducing at times.
Please Save My Earth makes me weep like a child. |
yeah i think you can appreciate my gungrave love.
actually it was pretty much the last six or so episodes. basically everything that happens once shit hits the fan.
actually, no, i was crying before that. SPOILERS basically the worst was the ending credits where everyone was greeting brandon and the episode where brandon was supposed to go on the date with maria and realized that he had become a murderer and didn't deserve her anymore, even though he still loved her. the whole series i was screaming WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE JUST GET A FUCKING BREAK OKAY!
i need to watch it again sometime. _________________

| gungrave is a fantastic, amazingly mature story that spawned out of the most unlikely source material. |
I was gonna say, I'd never known Gungrave to be actually serious. That's interesting to know. Does it take long to get the ball rolling? How many episodes before I'd know if it's worth jumping into? |
yeah, listen to machineXGUNXheart.
just skip the first episode and get to watching. _________________

my take: gungrave could have been wholly amazing if it had slashed the full blown animu transformation halfway in - the transformation that just became kind of terribly ridiculous, what with helicopter bobu poundumaxu and so on.
but then i guess you couldn't really do that, yeah, since, you know, the show couldn't just ignore what birthed it.
i think gungrave's soundtrack was more of the anime i wanted than gungrave itself. if that makes any sense.
still: yeah, really enjoyed the non-super-zombie arc of the story. had a fantastic weight and atmosphere to it. |
in it's defense it tries to get rid of all the game stuff as quickly as possible.
ALSO the fight with bunji is the total and ultimate shit ever in the game AND the anime _________________

SPOILERS
it's that way in the games, but the anime is quite different. in the anime, it's not that he's seeking revenge for harry killing him, it's that he's trying to protect harry and maria like he's done his entire life. they are the only two things that matter to him at all. the way i gather it, he sees that by destroying the syndicate that harry has created, one that's out of balance since harry's taken over, he is protecting harry from his eventual downfall. it's sort of weird. i think he's trying to protect harry's soul from becoming evil, sort of. like digi said, it's a tough love kind of thing. jesus christ just watch the anime already. i told you nadesico was good and it was, believe me when i say gungrave is my second favorite anime of all time. _________________
