Is that what its called?
The wife and I were in Seattle a little while ago, wandering the streets early on a Sunday morning. We passed a little Ice Cream place, and my wife fainted.
I woke her up.
She then blurted out, "These guys have the best Ice Cream ever!"
Thank fuck it was closed.
So yeah, they opened up one chain similiar to the US brethren in Langley, BC.
Its by the Cinema.
It costs $6 for a cup.
Its quite tasty, but seriously...its just fucking ice cream.
Why are you kids so into it? _________________

I prefer to call this place "Stone Cold"... and yeah, they're pretty good, but they can't compete with the (locally owned and run) Borden's downtown.
Marble Slab is just as good and cheaper. Do they have any of those around where you live?
Man now I want ice cream :( _________________

Because it's Ice Cream. And dairy queen isn't really ice cream. Wouldn't pay $6 a pop though. Not unless it had some strawberries and bananas blended in there. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

But it's not a good meal. It's like comparing Doritos to a good steak. Sure, the Doritos will fill you up, and even taste pretty good. But damn that steak is good... _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

america also has the actual cold stone. they are all over in seattle, as well as marble slab.
I hate cold stone.
super premium ice cream tastes like shit to me. its all cream. it doesn't taste like ice cream. the first time I went I bought the biggest bowl they had of their chocolate minster (chocolate chip mint is my favorite ice cream). I was sick of it after 4 bites and threw it away. it was gross.
I'll continue to go to baskin robbins and get chocolate chip mint in a waffle cone thank you. |

Ice Cream is not Ice Cream. Dairy Cream is not Ice Cream. That's soft serve with twice as much air as Ice Cream and cheap "cones". It's good, don't get me wrong, but it's not nearly as good as "real" Ice Cream. Or Frozen Custard which isn't Ice Cream at all.
That's what I was trying to say with the Doritos and steak analogy. One is good, but the other is much better. _________________ I can no longer shop happily. |

For the record, this type of ice cream is all I have experience as far as "real" ice cream goes. And some place called "The Honey Hut".
Edit: When I say "this type" I am referring to your baskin robbins reference. _________________ I can no longer shop happily.

I thought Cold Stone had little to no flavor. Graters is pretty nice, however, but their gallons are about 40 dollars.
Now I want Spamoni icecream. _________________ “We completely understand the public’s concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population, but that is not our mission,” - Harry Schoell, Cyclone Power Technologies Inc, in response to erroneous reports about a robot under development. |

Oh God I am going to have to get into this conversation (hi guys)
Anyways Dairy Queen is ice cream it is just soft serve. Same ingredients same fat content same everything it is just slightly different.
Now TCBY on the other hand is a whole different story! It can either be hand scooped or soft serve (alot like ice cream!) it is healthy for you because it has less of the bad things in it (fat content (96% fat freeeee) cholesterol, calories and whatnot) and also there is a bacteria that lives in it that is good for your stomach lining! So all over a better choice if you live a healthy life style!
Cold Stone Creamery is pretty cool. I haven't ever been to one but I have heard cool things about it, how they can mix your toppings in with your ice cream and all that jazz. I would like to go to one one day! |

Man, Graeters is good stuff. One of the few things I liked in Columbus that people from columbus also liked. Well, that and White Castle, yo.
Sno Cones are fucking great. My ex was a sno cone maniac. She fucking loved those things.

I love this. 96% fat free sounds good until you realize it means that 1/25th of what you are eating is PURE FAT. whoa. Note that this has never stopped me from eating ice cream, drinking milk, and such. It just is funny that people say it is healthy. Also, 2% milk is 98% fat free, but yeah. |

This sounds great until you realize that whole milk is considered to contain only 3.5 percent milk fat. Yet, according to nutrition guidelines is still through the roof.
Talking like 8g of fat in an 8oz glass of whole milk vs 5g of fat in an 8oz glass of two percent
There's many oz in a gallon! _________________

Cold Stone ice cream only has one good purpose in my world: Ice cream cakes.
Otherwise, it's not as good as most boutique creameries which make their ice cream in-house. Man, that reminds me that I should stop in at Hans' the next time I'm in SoCal. Best in OC for as long as they've been around.
It's interesting to be spoiled in a way that makes Dairy Queen, TCBY, and Cold Stone undesirable. Alas, the Vegas area's creameries are not as good. I've had to turn to gelato, sorbet, custard, and Dippin Dots. At least all of those options are available, though. ^_^ _________________

Homemade ice cream is heaven. I was a summer camp counselor at a Presbyterian camp outside of Tampa for a few years, and one of the evening activities was churning fresh ice cream.
Not everyone could churn ice cream on the same night, owing to limits on the salt needed to keep the ice from freezing. So we created a "black market" whereby the group that made ice cream would "throw away" the left-overs (so the kids didn't feel like they were missing out on anything) and then transport the cannister quickly around the other cabins so everyone got a share.
And Toups is dead on. That shit is ambrosial in the Florida summer. _________________

cold stone is the exact definition of the kind of business i hate.
they take a relatively normal thing (ice cream, burritos, coffee, whatever) add some kind of insignificant twist or gimmick, then act like it is the hottest shit on the market and if you go to a local store or any other "normal" chain then you are missing out on a true gourmet experience.
i guess it's not that big a deal but seeing the streets of a city littered with jamba juices and cold stone creameries just kills my spirit a little bit each time.
anyway as far as frozen desserts go the taiwanese variant of shaved ice is just about the best frozen thing ever.
a big pile of fluffy shaved ice covered in mango(/other fruit) and condensed milk
it pisses all over sno cones, for serious |

Speaking of mango, the thread inspired me to hit up the best-rated cold treat shop in the Vegas area, and I picked up a mango custard with strawberries and nuts.
Luv-it Frozen Custard, in downtown Vegas, on Las Vegas Blvd itself. The place is ancient. Dating back to the 60s, and has barely changed a bit since then. Local reviews are all five star. Lovers of old Vegas speak of the place with reverence.
Indeed, it is the best custard that I've ever tasted. I'm not really a custard guy, but let's just say that the quality of it was not lost on me. Oh man, those nuts complemented the mango in ways that I did not expect. _________________
