let's talk about weather!

here in japan, june is known as the rainy month. this means that it rains about four to five hours a day, only you can't pick the hours. it might be twenty minutes now, thirty minutes six hours from now, then ten minutes an hour later, then three straight hours, et cetera. it's really obnoxious!

because of this erratic precipitation schedule, i have been unable to hang my futons outside to dry for over a month. you'd figure that entering july would make it less rainy. not so fast!! it's still raining. and my apple weather widget shows that it'll be raining every day until sunday. who knows what next monday will bring.

july 7th is the tanabata festival, the only day of the year during which the stars vega and altair are supposedly visible in the sky at once. however, tanabata is based on a chinese myth, and in the chinese calendar, the seventh day of the seventh month is something like the end of august, so who really knows. they say that if it rains on july 7th, the two celestial lovers won't be able to meet, and will have to wait until next year. poor kids!

so what's the weather like over there?

i'm just posting this to communicate the weird slot-machine-like feeling i got when checking the weather widget and seeing rain all across the board.

My weather widget is pretty dependably in the 'We Kill Old People' range these days. 115f/46c in the shade, 3% humidity.

I honestly love the desert... As long as I get to come inside to 82'ish degrees, anyway.

Right now we're getting a fuckton of precipitation for the area I live in. Which is to say, it rains/slight showers once every two or three days. Today it was so muggy and sweltering though. I was loving the long period of mild breezes and thunderstorms we've been having, but I guess it's finally starting to heat up now.

In about a month I won't be able to stay conscious unless I wear no more than boxers and try to keep in the shade always.

It is raining on and off every single day here now for the past week and a half. Nothing annoys me more than summer heat with constant rain. Also, the Abe Lincoln lookalike who owns the newsagent near where I work said he read it was to rain every day of July. Dude looks like he was a wizened sage in a former life so I'm not going to take that lightly.

dude you need to relax with the northern ireland hate.
in aus the weather has been very unpredictable. sudden downpours of rain for massive spells of time, then all of a sudden it clears up and is nice again. it's really confusing the hell out of me, and is a bugger for my clothes, because i have no dryer. (it's australia it's always sunny lol no one needs a dryer).

Right...its 11.30am and its really sunny. The odds are that it will be pissing down with rain in 4 hours time.

For the last month or so, British weather has been completely mad..I sense someone insane with a weather-machine floating above the clouds.
It kinda reminds me of the weather in Malaysia. Sunny in the morning, rainy in the evenings...

Lots of rain here also, with the occasional ray of spring-ish sunshine breaking through.

I took the mudguard off my bike like a month ago and now I can't find it, so my ass gets splattered with mud at least once a day. (This is someone's sexual fetish)

On the agenda for today we have gusts of wind and hailstorms. Man it's like western europe has a rainy season nowadays.

Here in Kentucky, we had a bit of a drought with extreme heat for about 20 days, followed by a surge of strong storms last week. Since then I think things have been normal for summer, though the mornings have been paritcularly chilly the past few days. Still incredibly hot. I do long for more rain.

true winter allows for cool clothes. but in summer you have to make do with what you can wear, forces more creativity.

Fucking summer English rain. At least I'm not flooded.

Widget says: rain, rain, rain, covered sun (x3), cloudy.

Things have actually been pretty mild for the last few days here on Long Island, temperatures around 80F/30C, occaisional strong rains but most sunny skies. It's cloudy today though.

Here in the lovely city of Birmingham, AL, we're experiencing a stage 3 drought, which means that if one uses up too much water, then the water company charges extra. The limit is something like 8,900 gallons per month or something. I forget the exact numbers.

Then again, yesterday I was caught in a massive deluge that manage to completely soak my pant legs into a soggy heap despite the fact that I was carrying a golf umbrella.

Either way, that rain only lasted about 20 minutes at best, so it wasn't nearly enough to relieve the drought.

you mean the hot stuff?

i like vegas and its environs. i like the hundred-and-nine-degree nights. i like dry eyeballs every once in a while, and i like it when corneas fog up like cheap car windows when you enter a 7-eleven. it's refreshing, sometimes.

they say it's exceptional for your skin, as well. the desert, i mean.

Hot as in spicy or hot as in temperature? Hell, I guess I assumed it was to be drunk cold, which, in heartfelt retrospect, is a stupid idea.

Anyway, the desert has been grand. They did a temperature test on the Vegas strip yesterday -- couple-few hours before a random shooting in New York New York -- and with all the black asphalt and solar gain, the actual heat was around 130 degrees.

Indoors it's still more comfortable out here than it was in "The O.C.": As a lot of people I know have been lamenting about their own hometowns lately, it's one of those regions which is just temperate enough that not every home has climate control.

Hm.

I wonder what would make the desert heat good for the skin. A little bit of ozone to eat away at the surface layer, perhaps?

Any other midatlantic people here? Personally, I prefer the Highlights, four seasons kind of weather. Norman Rockwell weather. The way weather's supposed to be.
