C'mon, Kapp. No one really starts a thread over teh big 2-3-1. 2026's 250th will be a supersexy orgy of patriotic chaos. Riots in the street. Constitutions burned. Flags tattooed on dogs! My, God. It will be beautiful.

But, hey! Time to go buy cheapened fireworks! They are usually half-off today and maybe tomorrow.

That's why there wasn't a thread.

It's a fucking Holiday on a Wednesday. Aside from banks and the post office being closed it was another regular workday.

Maybe next year when it's on a Thursday it can be stretched to a 4 day weekend, but yeah. Wednesday is a really terrible day for a holiday.

If people would stop calling that day the 4th of July and just dub it Independence Day so we could just celebrate them on Mondays or Fridays that would make more sense. I would actually be able to have a day off (or call in "sick") for starters.

Christmas is on a Tuesday this year. Blech!

Actually I saw a lot of restaurants closed yesterday, and people on my block still go ridiculously drunk and shot fireworks from their roof decks. Each time I heard an ambulance about five minutes later.

Also, last summer when I was in Colorado the whole week of the 4th gave me empty roads because people weren't going to work. I've always taken it to be just another work day, but all around me that never is the case.

in the airforce, we get july 4th and 5th off.

I celebrated with a bunch of people on the rooftop of an apartment building. I drank 2/3 of a large bottle of jagger, and fell in love with a 30 year old hispanic girl whom I figured to be about 25.

fireworks are very illegal in anchorage, and we have about 20 hours of daylight right now, so there wasn't much to look at.

my home town has a city firework show that gets better every year. this is the first year in my life that I was not able to see it.

July 4th is my friend's birthday. We celebrated it on the 2nd though. A not-good day that involved death threats, a dude bleeding on the floor, me, said friend and a couple others getting kicked out of the apartment we were partying in, and a whole lot of other stupid stuff. Go America!
