So, I want to grow my hair out. Problem is, it gets all poofy and unruly everytime it gets long enough touch my eyebrows. How do I counter this? Someone told me of a "thinning" technique. Anybody else get this done at the stylist on a regular basis? What are some general tips and techniques for all those who have/had long hair? I want to get my hair down to about mouth/chin length....

Don't let the middle man piss you off when you're going for upper management!

As in: let it grow.

If, at mid length, it gets fighty gell it back or something.

When it gets longer it'll weigh itself down.

I had a stylist thin my hair out with a razor while she was putting in my layers last time I got a cut. I am not sure why she did this considering my hair is straight and not terribly thick to begin with. Thinning is basically where they chop away at the different layers in your hair to remove volume.

If you want to be a bit fancy you could always try hair relaxers or straightening kits. Not sure what your ethnicity is, so you should check out what your hair can handle before putting chemicals in it.

My advice is to find a fancy/overpriced/popular salon and see if you can get a free consultation with someone there.

I think the cool hair is counteracted by the jaunty angle of your head.

If you're not used to having longer hair, this is going to happen no matter what.

Also, make sure you let it all grow out evenly. There's nothing worse than a dude with bangs that are a few inches shorter than the rest of his hair.

Take to sporting a selection of fine hats/headgear, for the duration. I recommend golf-visors, Björn Borg-esque headbands, and turbans. Complete the look with gemstones that match the colour of your patience.

I used to have shoulder-length hair, but I chopped it all off in June. Now my bangs just barely reach my eyebrows, and I can't figure out a damn thing to do with my hair to make it look decent. I've decided to grow it back out, because I've had multiple people (girls, even!) tell me that I looked much better when it was long.

My solution to long hair is basically unacceptable to other peoples with long hair, so GOOD LUCK SPACE COWBOY.

I had long hair for years entirely because I was too lazy and indifferent to do anything with it. So I don't understant being troubled by any level of the process and am of no use to anyone.

This is the best advice you're going to get in this thread. When you have your hair thinned out you can do whatever you want with it. Of course, if you take this route you're going to have to get hair products, but that's the natural lay of the land.

Straight razors thinning out hair is good for guys with longer hair. Thick hair is nice for short hair, though :)

Too much of moneys, but proven repeatedly effective.

I'd look horrible with straight hair, I think.

Here's my most recent picture, which happens to have large headphones in it:

Here's what I look like with my hair out of the coils (I do not walk around in public like this):
