Due to popular demand, numberic is relaunching!
numberic is a select button community service through which you can share and discover fantastic music and terrible noises (usually from Pezon). It's been out of commission for eight or so months now, but it's heading back out onto the pitch today for round two! If you were one of the 67 people on the list as of 11/7/05, which is the last backup I have, I'll be sending you an email asking if you'd like to participate again, but I figured the rest of the community might like to get in on this too.
The way it works is this: you send a message to numberic@cetteboite.com with a couple songs as attachments, and everybody on the list gets them delivered right to his inbox! It's recommended that you use Gmail, for the space and the threading, and it's further recommended that you use an alternate account, or Gmail label/filters magic, to keep your main one free of clutter.
Back when we started this up the first time, the community was a lot smaller, so I had some reservations putting this thread in GBF now - but the thought of an Axe-only music group frightened me horribly. So, some stipulations:
-If you're a lurker, you're not really welcome to this.
-I moderate all subscriptions to the list, and only list members can send mail to it. If I don't recognize your Gmail address and it doesn't look like an SB poster I know of, it won't get approved. Send me a PM in a few days if you haven't been accepted.
-If you bring petty Axe bullshit to the list, you're out in a jiffy.
-Please try to have filenames and ID3/metadata info in some semblance of useful organization.
-Don't spread the list. It's not for anybody else but us and it just wastes my time denying people who aren't part of the community.
-Send any and every type of music with no reservations!
It will probably take a few days to get the list repopulated and the kinks worked out, but it's great fun for all involved when it gets rolling!

*If you put your username in the Your name (optional) blank it makes things easier for everybody to tell who you are, including me!

All the same, for maximum exposure, you might want to hold off on sending things you really like for another couple days to give everyone a chance to hop on the bandwagon. |

There are many people from the IC boards and IRC who don't post here, so reply to the emails. Reply to all for the whole list, just reply for the sender. Gmail threading handles this perfectly and it is glorious!

Try using Gmail's flash mp3 listening feature to decide what you want to download, if you want to be picky. Other than that, the flood of music is the point. It'll probably calm down a bit in a couple weeks, though. |

That's an option you can change for yourself, I just set it to NO by default. Look for the "not metoo" checkbox and uncheck it. |

Reply to all sends it to the list, which is probably the best thing if you're commenting on the music, since maybe that will inspire more people to also comment on the music, and a simple reply goes to just the sender.

Not that I know of. I've just made a rule than whenever I check it, I can't logoff until the usage is less than it was when I signed on. Still slogging through some stuff from the end of 2005! |

This thread was never meant for music discussion precisely because of things like this. Send it, and if people like it they'll respond (replying to all doesn't spam, thanks to Gmail's threading system which can be used almost exactly like a traditional forum!). Worst case scenario is everyone deletes your songs without listening, but that's unlikely. Even if you don't get positive feedback you've given people new options and helped them develop, expand and define their tastes! |

| I looked into this a couple of days ago, but there's nothing we can do about it. Gmail's filters and labels won't let you at your mail before Google applies its spam filtering, so you can't specify to allow things with certain subjects. Just gonna have to NOT SPAM things. You should only have to do this a maximum of once per person on the list, though (once allowed, always whitelisted, I hope). |

| HEADS UP: This is down for now (has been for about three weeks), since my hosting company switched systems. I'll need to install Mailman myself sometime, but that will take time I don't yet have. So, Mr. Mech, your latest stuff didn't reach everybody. Sorry, I'll try to get on it this weekend. |
