saw vertigo sunday at the alabama theater in birmingham. wonderful print, it looked great. i know eric-jon once talked about and seemed to like vertigo, so, what's everyone's opinion on it? apparently people hated it when it first came out, and i can sort of seem why. the silly ghost story at the beginning takes a very long time to get moving, and the pacing is very strange. though, once the film does the 180 in the middle (with the most wonderful dream sequence in history) it gets delightfully twisted.

creepy stalker jimmy stewart is the best. "YOU WERE AN APT PUPIL" is one of my favorite lines from the film.

my friends think the character of midge was sort of tragic, but i think she was selfish and immature. she only seems to return scotty's affection after he's interested in another woman, and then can't seem to show him her jealous affection for him in any way other than being nosy and sarcastic - the portrait was a very bad joke, midge. i felt no pity for her whatsoever.

also, i love that ulster gets away with murder, and that there's absoultely no consequences for him. he ruins judy and scotty's lives, and high tails it to europe with loads of cash.

all in all, i really enjoyed vertigo. rear window is playing weekend after next, and i'll most certainly be there.

ps. kim novak was a hottie, straight up

I like the silent tailing in the first half. No speech, really, for maybe ten minutes. That's all pretty dreamlike itself.

I used to live right by Ulster's apartment.

the movie makes san francisco seem like such a beautiful place.

have you noticed how the car is driving on the wrong side of the road to san juan batista? maybe i'm just crazy, but i didn't think cars drove on the left side of the road anywhere in america.

Anyways, Rear Window is one of my favorite movies. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it. Rear Window is easily Hitchcocks crowning acheivement in film.

Mine too (along with North By Northwest). By Jimmy they should make a Rear Window tactical shooter from the window type game. Then again maybe not as I'd spend too much time looking into Miss Torso's apartment.
bumping 2 say north by northwest is one of the worst movies i've ever seen jesus christ

jeff i've never seen it, but i did buy "dial m for murder" at a gas station and never watched it
