Don't read this braggy post, read RyogAkari's posts for more information as to this contest.
I've completed the Beat A Game challenge set by RyogAkari waaaaaay back in September.
10 games in 15 weeks (before Christmas), with 10 rules or criteria to follow:
- Made in 2005 or before.
- One game co-oped with another person.
- At least one from SNES/Genesis era or earlier. Only 6 max.
- One game owned by yourself, but played emulated.
- One game on a handheld.
- At least 4 different systems must be played on.
- One game must be a JRPG.
- One of the above must be broken. If not, then you have to complete a friend's game at a friend's house, with your friend's system and memory card, using your friend's controller.
- If two rules are broken, then you have to blare late 80's, early 90's music while you are completing a game.
The game list is as follows...
GAME 1: Final Fantasy V (SNES)
GAME 2: Trauma Center (DS)
GAME 3: Advance Guardian Heroes (GBA emulated)
GAME 4: Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
GAME 5: Arx Fatalis (PC)
GAME 6: Battle for Wesnoth (PC)
GAME 7: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - Julius Mode (DS)
GAME 8: Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES emulated)
GAME 9: Megaman Soccer (SNES emulated)
GAME 0: Kirby's Dream Course (SNES emulated)
RULE BROKEN: No Co-op game.
All these games I've started at one time or another and have never completed then. From picking it up half-way through to starting from the top, all of them have been beaten to their game end screen.
I would've liked to have photographic evidence, but I'm still a stone-age guy with no cell-phone or digital camera to speak of!
Not much of a thread, but I figure I'd throw this up here to see if anybody else tried (with any effort) to keep to their task. And, of course, to brag. LOOK AT MY ACCOMPLISHMENTZ, GUYZ, AND DEZPAIR!
Also, I've yet to see RyogAkari post on these forums. Is he MIA or just too lazy to register?

- Kirby Canvas Curse
- X-men arcade 4 player co-op
- Gunstar Heroes
- Super Mario Bros 3 (on nesDS while in line for a wii)
- Warioware Touched
- Contact
- Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
- Rocket Slime
- Cave Story
- Guwange
Rule broken: no jRPG
I don't have proof but most of those games are super short so I don't think anyone is going to disbelieve me. It's also not a competition, right?
EDIT: I get it, they /all/ have to be 2005 or before. No prob!

Oops, I misread that rule. Fixed my list accordingly.
I tried to leave off games that were super short like shmups, fighting games, actiony NES/Genesis games and the like. |

what's up guys? OK, so I havent been around very much but I do have reasons.
Anyway, since a lot of crazy, unforseen things have happened to both me and you guys I'm changing the rules around a bit.
Basically, it's like this. If you've completed 4 games, then you get to join in for the final fight.
Now, if you have completed more than 4 games, then I'm going to reward you. You get one point extra towards the final prize for each extra game you've beaten.. If you've completed more than just a couple more games and actually followed all of the rules to a T, then I'm going to give you 2 extra points on top of that. So far, GrimSweeper is starting out with 8 bonus points.
Don't worry though, it will be possible to beat him, you just have to outsmart him and the rest of your fellow competitors.
Anyway, I don't have the list of who has completed what, so on the Honor system if you would like to be in the final fight then please send me a PM with what you have beaten. This will need to be sent to me by January 1st.
OK, so are you ready for the rules? Excellent.
The final fight is this. I'm going to give you a list of possible categories, and it is your job to find a game that matches as many categories as possible and beat it. It is in your best interest that you do not discuss what game you are beating because you don't want someone else to steal your game.
A category can be like this "The games title is an aliteration". An aliteration as most of you probably know is a sentence, saying, name or whatever that has words that begin with the same letters. An example would be Final Fantasy, or Final Fight, or Marble Madness. If you selected a game like that then you would get a point for fulfilling that category. HOWEVER. Fulfilling that category might limit you from fulfilling other ones! Another category could be "The game has a Female Protagonist". Well, marble madness doesn't have a female protaginist. It doesn't have one at all, but Final Fantasy III does, so it would be wiser to pick Final Fantasy III over Marble Madness.
Basically, you won't be able to fulfill each category, but fulfill as many as you can. There will be a list of 50 categories listed below. You must select a game and beat it by January 31st 2007.
I appologize, but because this is the final thing I will need proof of you beating it. That means if you don't have a camera, buy a disposable then take it to walmart and get it developed and put on a CD, or borrow a friend's. Just be in the picture making a pose at the end of the game as proof.
PM me the details! Don't post them here. I'll accept PM's of beaten games through February 1st, but I won't accept any more after 11:59 PM EST February 1st.
Again, for those that don't know, the grand prize is a Phillips CD-i!!!!
Here the list of categories below.
1. The title has more than 2 A's in it.
2. You kill Ghosts in the game
3. The main character dies at the end.
4. Christianity is mentioned in the game
5. The game's setting is based off of our world.

| Wow, finding a game to fit as many categories as possible is probably the best game of the year, and I'm not even qualified to participate. |

Yeah, this was an awesome idea. I originally wanted to come up with even more crazy ideas for criteria. Ryog managed to come up with some good ones in there though. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with to win! _________________

Yikes! Haven't been updating or really participating ever since I got my new job a few months back, but here's what I've beaten anyway:
Jak X: Combat Racing!
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team!
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
Amped 3!
Pokemon Emerald!
...Sorry, I can't think of anything else from 2005 or earlier. This contest would've been better suited for any time of the year OTHER than the holiday rush; I was too busy sampling/finishing new games to dig into the library. :( _________________

Just a tip: Suikoden 1 can easily be beaten in a couple of days. So there's a JRPG for ya.
(and also a decent one)

By the way, those that still want to participate in the ending showdown still can even if they haven't beaten a game yet. It will be a bit tough for you because by february 1st you will have to have beaten the 4 prerequisite games and then beaten the final game that you chose to do battle with. I decided to add the extension in there so that people could still participate if they wanted to and if their lives have been as crazy as mine. The overall idea of bag was a lot of people like myself are just collecting games now and never taking the time to beat them!
Also, for people that want to finish the 10 game challenge, you still can. Remember if you finish the entire challenge following all the rules, you start off with 8 bonus points. For each game you beat though over the 4 prerequisite, you get a bonus point up to 6.
It's still anyone's game! (or prize rather!!!).
Remember to PM me the prerequisite games you did since I lost all of my PMs plus any additionals and then when you beat your final game, be sure to PM it to me with the picture as described in my first post. DONT POST YOUR FINAL GAME. Someone else will steal your idea, and beat it and possible have more bonus points than you. At the beginning of February, I'll post what everyone did and who ended up winning ^_^
Remember, it waits for you.
spoilers:
After this BAG, there WILL be another! |

I claim the title of first to be completed. I could've said this yesterday, but my laptop was on the fritz (HD said it was near it's time, so my dad was trying to ghost it to DVD and then transfer it to a HD of same make. Then today it decided that it wasn't as badly off) which had my BAG information stored and ready to send.
I'm unsure of whether my point total is satisfactory or not. I thought I chose well and I can't think of anything better suited to this, but a little voice in my head is saying it just isn't enough. :S
Also, this was teetering on the edge of oblivion into page 2, where nobody (aside from stubborn participants) would see that there's still hope for the late crowd. |

It's halfway through January and so far only Grim has completed the BAG quest!!
If you beat 4 games between the end of August and now you are already eligible to compete in the final round (as the rules mention above.) A CD-i is a pretty cool prize to get for free just by beating games, yo.
Anyway, After this BAG contest comes to a close, smartblue and I will announce the next one, and it
WILL NOT BE ONE TO MISS |

Right. You guys remember this? The fact that there was a contest going on (an interesting contest, no less, from what I've gathered ITT)? Yeah, it just ended. Depending on what RyogAkari wants, it might be extended to get you slackers participating.
It ain't a real contest if only one person plays. :/ |

I will need to work out shipping with you grim. I'm in job transitions right now so let me get my life figured out and then I'll be able to take it down to UPS. go ahead and PM me your address.
