as tough as the SB knorpse could be, there were never any sections where you could get fucked over to that degree, thanks to the limited skillset. |
This is because the SB Knorpse was developed with the assumption that the player would have a certain set of abilities from the start and never gained more, so it wasn't possible for situations like this to develop. Managing these issues is one of the dangers of an Exquisite Knorpse, and, arguably, one of its charms. _________________

Actually, it IS possible. It's just unnecessarily difficult.
Niku did the entire thing without hologram, but he only recorded the final room for demonstration.

| I don't know where to go D: I'm in the space ship thing that's above a big updraft and I got two of the switches but i can't seem to progress left. I have run and double jump and umbrella. And then to the right of the updraft there's a path for either "frocto" or "everyone else" but I don't want to do the "frocto" path and "everyone else" leads back to a place I've already been. |

the teleporters aren't super obvious: in the first room in the ship above the updraft, you can see a series of symbols. You basically have to wander through and activate each of the corresponding switches in the order shown through clever use of the teleporters (this may involve a lot of running around in circles). You can't go left through the ship without the high jump.

Fuck, now I wanna know how they got past the room I'm stuck on. There's far fewer places to grab onto and block shots; I've been trying! _________________

Open up the Knorpse in the Level Editor, go to Map square x1020y1013 (click the Expand Map button to make this easy), click the 4 below the level display to select the "objects" layer, and paste in an umbrella (should be object 10 or so; just left click on Objects until you see it, and right click to go back if you go too far). Then save the level and hope for the best. _________________

If you've got the first two switches, then from the area start, here's what you need to do.
1. From the first room with all five switch icons, move one room to the right. Use the teleporter.
2. Travel as far right as possible. Whenever you come to a teleporter, enter it and then enter it again--this will save your game, but you don't actually want to leave this branch yet. You'll come to the third switch.
3. Go back left to the last teleporter you passed. Enter it and go left; you'll get to another teleporter in a dead end. Enter it as well.
4. You're right next to switch #4.
5. For the last switch, you need to find the one room with a laser along the bottom that's blinking. Drop off the bottom of that screen, follow the path around, and you'll eventually reach the last switch. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

i'm not even sure how you'd get to the qte without already having the umbrella, unless there's a clever route i missed and/or there are multiple qtes |
I just...walked. beat the colored platforms, got to the bouncy room, took the secret portal, got to the village...did I accidentally sequence break? |
Yeah, the village isn't supposed to be accessible yet. An earlier version of the level took out the ability to get there. BotageL has the best solution for your current situation, I'm afraid. |

dessgeega's knytt stories are pretty excellent. (Under the Crack, Torchlight (my favorite), The Lighthouse, The Oubliette and Fossil (my second-favorite))
my favorites are Harvest, A Walk at Night, Sohe and the Rrokked, Monocromatica Grotta, It Waits, The Hunt, CRYB and fucking DON'T EAT THE MUSHROOM
mint play Don't Eat the Mushroom
all of nifflas' (the creator of Knytt) stories are great too, my favorite is A Strange Dream _________________

Cheers mate, the second hint is all I needed. I handled it after that. I guess I hit one of the many rooms that looked the same (multiple times) and just assumed the symbols were the same. These types of mazes don't usually trip me up, but whenever you think something might be impossible (an idea I got from reading other people's experiences with this level), you always give up a lot quicker. |

I watched a "Let's Play" of Don't Eat the Mushroom which was much more entertaining than ACTUALLY playing it
guys how hard is it to make knytt levels? I need a game to make levels for that people will care about but I think it might both be too hard, and not reach a very large audience at all. |

Show me a screencap of the screen you're stuck on? I think you might, but I honestly can't recall if I had high jump there or not off the top of my head. _________________

Hacked my save to go past the boss of Death, though I'm not proud of it. Yeah, it's beatable without the hologram, but it's entirely reliant on luck. If it were possible to control the flame enemies' timing, rather than being at the mercy of an RNG every time you enter the screen, sections like that would work. Honestly, Knytt Stories has far too many uncontrollable enemy types for a lot of the bullet-hell rooms attempted in this hack, even though they're thrilling when they work.
edit: actually i guess that's the last room of War; Death seems rather obvious, although it suffers from the same problem: FUCKING RANDOM FIREBALLS ARE BULLSHIT. think i'll just skip it _________________

You should be able to get up there using Climbing and the Double Jump. That is assuming you can climb, since for all I know you hadn't gotten it (back) before the sequence break. _________________

So, for Exquisite Knorpse 3, Zaratustra has opened Knytt Stories up in Multimedia Fusion and is mucking about in its guts. I'm hoping we can yank the RNG entirely and have entirely deterministic enemies for the next game.
P1d40n3, yeah, there's not supposed to be any way to reach that point with the abilities you have, and we closed the last known loophole that enabled that back in... 1.3, I think. Your best bet is probably just to use a fixed save.
Make sure you've got the latest version of the game, and then copy and paste the following into the save file (located in the Saves folder):
| Code: |
[Positions]
X Map=1006
Y Map=1007
X Pos=12
Y Pos=6
[Powers]
Power0=1
Power1=1
Power2=1
Power3=0
Power4=0
Power5=0
Power6=1
Power7=0
Power8=0
Power9=0
Power10=0
Power11=0
[World]
World Folder=Worst Forums Ever - Exquisite Knorpse 2
[Flags]
Flag0=0
Flag1=0
Flag2=0
Flag3=0
Flag4=0
Flag5=0
Flag6=0
Flag7=0
Flag8=0
Flag9=0 |
That should put you right before the warp that used to be broken which derailed your experience, with all the abilities you're supposed to have at that point. |

DAIS, no, Nifflas is done with it. He's moved on to other projects for a while now. However, Zaratustra is successfully introducing a series of changes so that we can make our own knock-off version of Knytt Stories. Changes so far significantly reduce or eliminate the randomness of enemies, introduce new abilities like a super-jump and double-size mode, and... of course... the ability to shoot back. _________________ JSNLV is frequently and intentionally wrong. |

eliminating the randomness of things is fine -- great, even -- but i rather like how juni simply doesn't have any offensive tools. even at its most action-packed, it's a game about movement and surviving the environment, not blasting away. _________________

I finished Exquisite Knorpse 2. The game got really nasty toward the end, but I stuck it out despite dying hundreds of times on the last boss and the Apocalypse area before it. For all that, it has its moments of beauty and was overall fun to play.
I think I feel relieved more than anything. The ordeal is over. |
