|
|
My old one is broke and the warranty is voided.
I need to change up and get something AMAZING
What kind should I get?
I do not know a lot about mp3 players because for a long time I already had one. |

I don't own it yet, but I'm planning to buy a Cowon D2 today, after having done a bunch of research. Although, I guess now I have to read about the Trekstor Vibez, since it's a comparable price and sound quality is my #1 concern as well.
Why:
SDHC slot.
Excellent sound quality.(Based on the reviews I've read, this has the best sound quality of all the Cowon players) Even frequency responce, and high output power
Long battery life-50 hours of music and 10 hours of video in CNet's tests.
FLAC and Ogg support.
It also has an FM radio and some recording capability, but I don't care about that.
Cons:
Touchscreen controls, so it's not so easy to use in your pocket.
No gapless.
4gb isn't much for the price. |

Whatever you get, don't break the seal on the packaging or it will decrease the player's value. _________________

Typically the whiny, annoying ones who use open source versions of absolutely everything and never stop telling me about how much I apparently need Linux without ever giving me any concrete reasons for having it.
iTunes is really stupid about some things though, but I wouldn't know what else to suggest. |

i have the vibez
the sennheiser earbuds that came with it were crap compared to the MX series numbers mean nothing
also the wheel is too sensitive
i keep it in my front jeans pocket and accidentally push pause/next track all the time. locking the player is a pain in the ass
i got the neoprene case that covers the wheel (there's a new leather one that's better)
i don't use the wheel in general _________________ Dammit potato! |

I might be getting a new MP3 player at some point near the end of the year. Here are my requirements
-40GB or more capacity
-FLAC, OGG, and APE support
-Drag and drop interface
-Better sound quality than iPod
-some degree of customizability
Things I would like but aren't essential
-Video playback |

The S1s are great because they're like, dirt cheap. Get a couple of rechargable batteries to go with them, and you have a piece of junk that you don't have to worry about losing. Maybe in the dead silence of the night you can hear the poor audio quality, but riding the Trains into manhattan, you'll barely hear the songs themselves, so who cares about quality? _________________

That APE thing's probably the killer. And most things that support FLAC or OGG seem to do one or the other, not both.
Otherwise: Ebay -> iRiver HP140.
As for Ging, you didn't tell us what you're replacing and what you want. 4GB? 40? Video playback? No screen at all? itunes user? Drag/drop preference, etc.
I've been really digging my Zen Stones (Original and Plus), and creative sent me an email today about a new 4/8GB Creditcard-sized Zen with a 2.5" screen, expandable through SD flash cards. Seems pretty sweet, looks nice. _________________

Samsungs YEPP-players are nice and well-thought, I really recommend that you have a shot at them - at least take a look. Samsung Yp-Z5, P2, K5 etc. etc. can be found in the interweb quite easily.
At least up to the Z5 they did support OGG, however, if the newer ones do, I do not know. _________________

I'm looking for something with good battery, and volume/sound quality is extremely important. And at least 8 GB capacity and FLAC support.
Something reasonably priced would be nice.
Also it can't look ridiculous.
Also looking for some quality headphones that are not huge.
The headphones cannot look ridiculous. Unless they're ridiculous-awesome.
See all I got right now are some sennheiser earbuds which are ok I guess. |

Because iPods have inferior sound quality, limited customizability, they do not play FLAC or OGG, and you have to go out of your way to use 3rd party software to get your music on there if you don't like iTunes. |

Im still enjoying my 30Gb Zen Vision M, and Zen Stone (standard)..
The only thing that bugs me about the 30Gb-er is the proprietary plug/dongle thing you have to attach before you're able to stick a USB cable/ Video out cable/ AC adapter to it. |

just get an iPod, there is a reaosn they're so popular.
Look good, good interface, iTunes organises music excellently, smart playlists, no reason to get into DRM or any of that nonsense
Whats point of lossless on an MP3 player, like you can hear the quality on the bus through headphones _________________

QFT. Otherwise excellent, yes. No problems with it that aren't caused by my choice of software. _________________

Does it really matter enough to suffer poor interfaces and poor music management, both of which were solved in the iPod.
I mean you know, its all music in the end right. _________________

The Eymotics Research ER-6i's are good for people that don't want to invest in a headphone amplifier.
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx
Pretty sure you can find them cheaper on the internet somewhere. Amazon sells them for $75 and Headphone.com used to sell them for like $60 but I guess they stopped carrying them. I like my ER-6's a lot when I go travelling. You don't have to deal with any train/bus/plane noise at all. |
