It's all about going as fast as possible through the stages (high speeds means no significant overlap of bullets; you become ghost-like at around 8k+), then use the charge shot to dispatch the sub-boss and boss.
And I still can't crack stage 9. |

I LOVE this game.
Typical shmup is about concentration/patterns/cold blood, Torus Trooper is about "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, FUCKING SPEED OF LIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Really, this is one of the few games that makes me scream "woooooh" while playing it.
And damn, the speed in Extreme Mode is something out of this world.
So I have another suggestions. First. what about an arena shooter? SMASH T.V. (the MAME choice), NaaC or ECHOES (the freeware choices)
Or we could play Typhoon 2001. Yes, I know that it would be better Tempest 2000, but Typhoon is free and easy to get.
Or some puzzle game. The fast and cute Magical Drop 3 (MAME choice) or DUOtris (freeware choice, and an eyes destroyer)
This is one of the best threads in SB, let's keep the good work! _________________

I use the super shot (keep pressed X or the second button in your pad) as a brake. So when I see a lot of shots I charge the super shot so I can avoid the bullets wih more ease. The supershot destroy enemy bullets and give multipliers too, and if you destroy enough things with it you gain 15 seconds more. _________________

Hey I suggest "roadrunner", this new (september 2007) game for the C64:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=53708
Favorite emulator: VICE.
Watchout for the "Enable True Drive Emulation" setting, it's often mandatory. |

Screw that, this is a game about SPEED!! Just keep the accelerate button pressed and shift wildly left and right depending an what your tormented eyeballs report to your bewildered brain. |

Nothing fancy about this game, except back in the day, the choice between vulcan and laser, missile and homing, must've been nerve-wracking. I actually got cocky, rushing forward for the right kind of power-up, and ate bullets -- the ship is really slow, and the bullets are really fast.

God, this game embodies nearly everything annoying about early 90s-mid 80s shooting games.
1) Bomb takes forever to come out
2) Player 2 ship is obviously better than the player 1 ship
3) Takes an entire stage to get your power-ups back if you die
4) Power-ups float around near the top of the screen where all the danger is
5) Horizontal screen scrolling means huge numbers of enemies that you can't even see
6) Your score is going to fucking suck if you die (no medal bonus)
7) Giant hitbox
8) Laser and homing missile are game ruiners in almost all cases |

Fuck, last bullet of the first boss killed me bad. Would've had at least 40k more if not that.
Also, I've gotten rusty with Raiden, or I have been playing easier difficulity earlier, cause I could clear 3rd stage...
Also, Deets, while I agree with most of your points, the 'loose life, get fucked on score' isn't exactly early 90's, vide Metal Slug. |

104550. Agh, I am not happy with that at all. I've played Raiden so many times...I guess the wine I've had tonight didn't help.
As for complaints, I think people are approaching Raiden with the wrong mindset. Yes, the Raiden is a slow maneuvering fighter, but in contrast to everything else, that's where the challenge of the game lies. I'd say that Raiden is more a game about advanced prediction and observation of the play field than quick reflexes. _________________ HeavyViper@Twitter ~~~ HeavyViper@Soundcloud

schwere viper: the ship you get if you play on the second player side is effectively twice as fast as the 1P ship.

If you can crack the encryption scheme (that did left those people that broke NeoGeo/CPS2/3/etc scratching their heads) it could be emulated tomorrow.
So, yeah, hurry up and do it. Should be piss easy, rite? |

| Yeah apparently the trend of making the 1P and 2P ships behave differently in terms of speed and bomb-type didn't start until Raiden II. I shouldn't have assumed, in this case. Whoops! |

Ugh. First game ever of Raiden, and yeah, the ship is exceedingly slow.
But I also suck.
Anyway, I'm gonna request the original DonPachi. Not DoDonPachi, but DonPachi, Cave's first shooter. |

Yeah, I almost died instantly while adjusting to the lack of speed.
The next game will probably almost definitely not be a shooter. _________________

What about Midnight Wanderers (one of the three games in Capcom's "Three Wonders"), it's a nice run&gun.
And there is a lot of good suggestion up there. I'll try to list all them tomorrow. _________________

First time playing Raiden I, but not first time playing a Raiden title, not bad i guess... and yeah, the ship is slow as hell, but mostly all Raiden titles are all the same. _________________

TODAY'S GAME IS: MIDNIGHT WANDERER (arcade, "Three Wonders" cabinet)
(That means if you want to find the game, look it up by "Three Wonders," not "Midnight Wanderer.")
It looks too cool to pass up, and I've always wondered where Lou in MvC came from (that is him, right?) _________________
