I'm so totally not surprised. Einhander will come true! I can't wait to see that mass driver being built, since the Japanese really are in love with mass drivers ... just take Ace Combat 5, Einhander or Xenogears and you'll find massdrivers.

TOLL, I recommend that you watch Rocket Girl. That series totally went under the radar and it'll take some days until I get hold of it but you should totally watch this if you are interested in that kind of thing. They come up with a ridiculous reason why they are using girls as astronauts, as far as I've been told.

Twin Spica (Futatsu no Spica) might be worth a look as well, though keep in mind that you are probably thinking "that's Heidi!" while watching it. And it's ... well, different.

Anyway, Kaguya it's called, I read ....

... nope, doesn't come close yet. I still have high hopes! Also, I have a sudden urge to talk about Ace Combat 5 and a white dove but I'll do that in another thread. Thanks for the heads up!

Space is so fucking cool.

The greatest thing that Bush has ever done is announce the drive to Mars. Too bad he hasn't backed it up with any real force or funding.

Let the chinese land successfully on the moon (or mars?) and you can't imagine how fast Bush (or whoever might be in charge then) will have backers of another space-race-program.

EDIT: I'll check out Rocket Girls soon, Gironika. I love the Real Space thing to the point that it's a kind of obsession (though I haven't seen Planetes, yet :-( ). There's another good space-central mostly realistic series, but that also has people having sex like every 5 minutes or so. A guy will be in space performing a Newton maneuver to get back to the ISS and the next scene will have a girl going IKU IKU IKU IKU IKU

Fear not, Rocket girls and Twin Spica will be different! At least Twin Spica has no sex-scene, guaranteed.

The Chinese are already on Mars! Why do you think it is called the Red Planet?

just saw an article in a newspaper yesterday with a nice (and pretty red) illustration of NASA people on Mars. Wonder if they can Boson Jump some years down the road from now then!
One should demand that Nadesico is mentioned more often in this thread ... even if it's just for the love of MazingerZ-esque robots being used randomly.

Zone of the Enders, Armitage III, Nadesico ... that are some of the series that come to my mind when talking about Mars, yet (at least Nadesico and ZoE) they have a slightly different setting when it comes to Mars, despite the hatred between Marsians and Earthlings being a common theme. Are there other "friendly" series out there that are less hostile if it comes to Mars?

Ay, nearly forgot Red Planet with Val Kilmer.
