So there are lots of "The Science of ________" where the blank is some fictional franchise like Buffy or His Dark Materials.

Anybody like any of these in general or in specific?

You know, there's one word that could make you waste countless hours, days or even weeks to read about, be it fiction, fandom-inspired discussions or very serious scientific articles that prove that he/she/it can't exist: GODZILLA

While western people seem to have an urge to prove why he/she/it CAN'T possibly exist, some taking a honorable neutral stance (most of these links are taken from that site), it's once again down to crazy Japanese enthusiasts to have cutaway pictures of it's monsters and trying to explain why Godzilla had a radioactive melt-down in it's 1999 movie.

Quote:
The cutaway pictures above and near the top are - apparently - taken from this thesis. It might not surprise you, however, to find that Yamane is not a real scientist, but one of the main characters of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. In fact, Yamane is the adopted grandson of the Dr Yamane from the original Godzilla movie of 1954.

You just have to love Godzilla and it's monsters and you can easily waste hours reading stuff related to Godzilla.
And if you're done with that,
Quote:
What is a Godzilla game without 4P Multiplayer action?

Unfortunately, you have to be a big fan of Big G to enjoy playing them, so you'd better watch the films first and then come back to fight Spacegodzilla and King Gidorah.

The 'Science of Diskworld' books are good if you're looking for a series of interesting articles on science for laymen interspersed with illustrative vignettes starring characters from the books. It's definitely not a normal Science Of... book, because it doesn't bother to try to explain Diskworld as being scientific, because that'd be stupid.

I don't know if it exactly follows the notion of "fake science" perfectly, but I'd recommend a couple of "fake facts" books:

Max Brooks' The Zombie Survival Guide
John Hodgeman's The Areas of My Expertise

I specifically recommend the audiobook version of the latter. It has a lot more personality, and the jokes seem a little more comprehensible somehow.
