Thats obnoxious Audiophile thank you.

Think of it this way, if I get their music on vinyl those sweet covers will be 12inches tall!!

I thought obnoxious audiophiles were the ones who insist that they can hear the difference between 320 CBR and FLAC and that it's worth taking a 420% size inflation to get that extra quality

Meh. I can understand a vinyl preference, as I'm a bit of an enthusiast myself, but refusing to buy something on the merits of there not being an LP version is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Really, the problem with CD's doesn't lie in the fact that they're in a digital format - it's actually the conversion back to analog where most systems get it wrong. Audiophile magazine has done reviews of standalone DAC units, and guys who where vinyl hardcores said they didn't miss their turntables while using these things. Sure, standalone DAC's aren't cheap, but on the other side of the fence, a properly good turntable setup (table, nicer tonearm if you're frisky, cartridge, stylus, preamp) can cost upwards of three grand just to get into territory where it'd be considered a "serious" setup. Go to AVS and ask for a serious turntable setup under a grand and you'll probably get laughed at.

In the meantime, you can get a DVD player with digital output and a DAC unit with Burr-Brown converters, with much better signal-to-noise ratio, almost un-measurable wow and flutter (distortion due to spindle speed variation), and most of the warmth of vinyl with none of the inconvenience (nobody who's serious about vinyl uses an automatic rig, because the tonearms are too light to sound good - I'm sorry if I'd rather listen to an hour of music versus getting up after every couple of songs to keep the tonearm from shooting off and flipping the record over).

Either way, a vinyl preference is fine -I tend to prefer it myself. It just bugs me that people who are vinyl elitists dismiss CD's without hearing what they're truly capable of.

I don't buy the vinyl "warmth" argument. Same thing with tube amps other such nonsense. The only thing vinyl has going for it is awesome cover art.

Supposedly adding a certain value of resistor to the output side of a MOSFET amplifier can emulate the tube sound. *shrug* I'll take my music without the added distortion, I think.
