Best way to get cheap flights?

Hey guys, I'm looking at Japan flights around December/January. What are your recommended methods on getting the bottom rock price?

Stay away from weekends and their related days. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are usually cheaper days.

I don't know, I find traveling on Sunday gives me cheaper flights than week days.

Travel agent. You can sometimes get international flights cheaper than what they're posted, but only through travel agencies. Plus, places like flight centre do fare beat if you do manage to find cheaper flights on your own.

Also, I just looked up some flights in January, and found some for less than $1000
