Let me tell you, I was at the menu screen for Stranglehold and selected the button for a "new game" and while it was loading up that new game just like I asked the monitor went and turned black and did the thing where the green light turns yellowish, all stand-by mode like and whatnot and anyway it hasn't really come back on ever since. It's sort of been doing something like this recently. I've been playing Oblivion and every once in a while after playing for so long the screen would turn black and either it would go into stand-by mode (which only pressing the reset button would fix) or it would minimize and tell me my graphics driver quit working or whatnot. I've installed new drivers since then though, and resetting doesn't do a god damn thing.
I can accept the fact that Stranglehold most likely just detonated my used carnival prize of a computer with it's majestic doves and stylized gunplay, I took a big risk even attempting to run the game, I know. But I just can't figure out where the killing blow hit, if you understand me, what I mean is, what the fuck is wrong here. It's not the monitor, and on a scale of 1-4 I am 3 sure that it's not the videocard, I tried another one.
What it does is, I turn it on and the computer makes noises but the monitor, it comes on green and then just gives up and goes to yellow, no picture. Once, while trying a bunch of different monitors on it I got one to stay on and it made it all the way to the windows loading screen, but then once it got loaded up and ready it did the same thing, ol' stand-by mode, and it never worked like that again. And once, there was no picture as usual, but there was sound and I could hear Windows come up, it never did that again either though, or maybe it's just upset I keep resetting and wants to know if safe mode would be better for me but doesn't know I can't see it and therefore can't answer it's questions. Meanwhile, the keyboard lights are blinking, like they're trying to send me a message and I just don't speak led or something I don't know.
Every year since I've had it and always at this time of year, something goes wrong with this junk heap. Last time it was the motherboard and videocard, before that the power supply. When the motherboard was busted it didn't even turn on, so I'm not sure that that's the problem here. And when the videocard was broke I still got a picture, just a shitty one. I wasn't even able to replace it until recently, so that's also why I don't think it's that. So uh, what I want to know is, do any of you fellows have an idea as to what the problem could be here. |
