okay, so let's see here. thus far i have successfully made a partition for and installed ubuntu, and booted into it exactly once so that i could (with some not insurmountable difficulty) make grub by default boot into windows with a 3 second timeout window.
this involved me teaching myself what the 'sudo' command does (hey thanks for telling me i couldn't edit that file elsewise when as far as i know i'm the only use who ought to have any privileges for anything), and still i would've been completely for shit had i not known that you have to use 'gedit' in unix. anywho.
ubuntu boots with this little notice in the top right saying that there aren't any open drivers for my modem or video card, and would i like to use restricted ones? i tried enabling them for the radeon, to no avail.
something of a bigger issue is that it doesn't appear to recognize my wireless card at all. it's listed in the device manager and all, but nothing else on there gives me any indication that ubuntu knows what to do with it. presumably if i could get online i would have a much better chance of actually finding proper video drivers, so i'd kind of like to iron this one out first.
thank you!! |
